In reply to several PM's requesting information on the Dutch Paints, I offer the following :

The main difference between American and European Paints is the size of the crest, European paints,, half size of American, same with beards, some are even beardless I have crossed Dutch paint males to American Whites and have gotten good results, Same with Show girl males over dutch paints. 1/2 of offspring are paint, others either black or partridge, a few orangy. 1/2 are naked neck.'

hi everyone i just hatched out 27 silkies would have been 28 but the one painted silkie eggs the poor baby chick died in the middle of zipping now my daughter is so upset and i was wondering is there anybody that sales painted silkie hatching eggs i only need 6 or 8 if so please PM me with the price. My daughter uses silkies since they are nice and sweet as her therapy along with goats and a horse (horse belongs to a friend). We hope to start in the next few months providing therapy to other children with disabilities like my daughter once we get everything in order.

Hi all! I am hoping some of you paint breeders can confirm for me if these guys are paints or splashes and explain to me why that is. I'm having trouble with these two because they are white with black spots and my splashes are normally more of a gray/blue with darker spots. The lighter one is mostly white, unfortunately her dark spots weren't photographing well. Thanks!

Thank you for the reply. Can you explain to me how you know that for sure? Thanks!

If you look through this thread, you can tell paints. Paints have obvious black spots. Splash can range from almost totally white, to almost all blue, to almost all black. I have a WIDE array of splash in my Silkies.

Do you have birds that should produce paints?

I second they are splash. The darker one is bluish background. The lighter one, looks very light blue and the distribution of the spots is more typical splash pattern, and the spots look whispy blue over very light grey background. Hard to tell with the color. You could look at their soles of their feet and their eyes for clues. The soles of the feet if they are all splotched with pink AND they have one or both eyes light, probably a paint, if you are hatching eggs that may come out paint.

I think that the wide array of colors is what confuses me. Okay, so how do you KNOW you have a paint silkie? If it has pigment holes in the feet and eyes? Is that the only way to tell? It is very hard to see in these pictures (for whatever reason) but these guys are definitely white with black spots. The father has produced paint chicks in the past. I am not looking to breed paints, but I was curious because of the white/black on these guys.
