The American Paint Silkie

This is my 7 week old paint roo Picaso. Is it normal for them to develop more painting as they grow? As a young chick he had only one spot but every week it seems there are new black areas popping up, some just a few hairs, others in small patches. I also have a black hen that was from paint breeding so I'm looking forward to seeing how they breed together in the future :)

At what age do your cockerals typically start to show leakage if they are going to have it? I have a 7-8 month old cockeral that is still white as could be... Hes maturing now and showing a lot of interest in the ladies. I am wondering if he will stay clean or start to develop some leakage later? His foot feathering is amazing! Rough from free ranging but so long it almost curls up at the ends....

The breeder has been working on paints for quite a while so I know shes had a few generations breeding now. She was also sooo strict when I bought them that I should never breed them paint to paint or to any color except the most clear blacks or true whites I could find. Makes me hopeful that I wont get any leakage? I thought I was going to have to sign a waver agreeing to her terms if I wanted to buy them! LOL I bought a cockeral and a heavily spotted pullet as well.

Their only flaw is their crests are not very big at all. I plan of giving the cockeral some vaulted, heavily crested black catdance girls I am growing out and the pullet will go with him for a while to then a nice black cockeral eventually. Thats my plan anyway.....

Quote: Heck, I was thinking the variety (if it could be replicated) should be called "vested." Needs a pocketwatch on a chain, though!

Working on TRYING to replicate it along with a couple of other projects involving him. He's just now starting showing interest in breeding. My DH has nicknamed him "Red Jacket" so "Vested " would "fit" perfectly

- BTW I have several pocket watches that I can slip on him for photos in the future

Hey guys! I was checking over some Aussie silkie breeders websites and found some photos of their splash birds - I was wondering if y'all would class them as Paint or Splash?

NOTE - THESE BIRDS ARE NOT MINE.

whoooweee I made it all through 127 pages! Now I can introduce myself. I am from the Arizona Chickens thread. I adore Sonoran Silkies, she has been such a help to me. I got some paint eggs from Aurorarose along with some others. I didn't even know what a "paint" was. I ended up with two and feel very lucky and also in love with these colors! I think Poppycock is cockerel but don't care either way but really hope he is! I am pretty sure that Daisy is girl. I am going to have a few black, white and Daisy to breed to Poppycock. I may try to add a splash if I can find one. Anyway here is my two paints that are 16 weeks old in these pictures. They are 18 weeks old now. The spots continue to be more pronounced.
