: Freezer camp!! I'm loving it!!!!

I bought a whole frozen chicken the other day and when I got home I trook it to the coop and explained to the ladies that I needed to see some cooperation from them or they would become friends with the frozen chicken. well the sextuplet witches (my 6 leghorns) simply looked at me like "whatever" and went back to their clucking amongst themselves. The only ones that care are Lucy and Ethel my 9 week BO and BR. And they aren't old enough..

I am waiting and waiting -- seems like that is the theme in this thread. I have 8 hens, 4 are 18 weeks, 4 days and the other 4 are 16 weeks and 4 days. Not an egg to be seen. When are they going to start earning their keep? Do different breads mature earlier that others? My austerlop and RIR have bright read combs and waddles.

UPDATE: Finally we have our first egg! It was small and light brown and perfect. I have no idea which hen laid it! I am sooo happy!!! 20 weeks and 2 days!

So every girl is squatting here. I let them out to play and they go under the front porch, so I am crawling around with a flashight looking for eggs. They are on lockdown this morning in the run just to see if anything happens. I know we are messing arounnd in the nest box because somebody knocked the golf ball on to the coop floor this morning. When I took them out their cottage cheese I told them first one to lay an egg gets a whole box of raisins . I may have to carry the bag of frozen chicken breasts out to the coop to have a talk:he
