The Anxiety Chat Thread

Y'all have such interesting hobbies! As a crocheter I find the yarn so intriguing. How do you restore cake toppers, pinkaboo?

M.E. Isn't fun at all. I know someone who has it and it's so sad. I have mild depression, self esteem issues, etc. as well. I think anxiety and depression go hand in hand, personally.

I'll be back in a few, gonna go finish up some stuff before watching a movie or two. :)

I actually buy aloyt of old 20s 30s and 40s toppers from American
Then I either repair or recast in plaster or if they are un damaged I repaint( sometimes to look like bride and groom, and re dress the bride, I try and make a miniature dress similar to the brides

That's so cool! I crocheted a microchicken.

Crocheted with sewing thread. :) And greetings, Earlybird :)

Also, I'm having my dog trained as a service dog to recognize the signs of a panic attack, anxiety, etc. and tell me before it gets really bad while I can still stop it. I'll let you guys know how that goes. She already seems to be able to tell, so I think she'll do well.

I recommend going over the IAADP web site, lots of great info about SDs.

Thanks making yarn is a great addiction and it helps calm me down and focus when I am feeling all over the place.

Did you know that it has been proven the knitting/ crocheting helps tremendously with anxiety, and PTSD? The repetitive motion as well as the continuous counting forces you to relax and kind of breathe through panicky times. I take knitting with me when my husband drives ( I do terrible as a passenger) or if I go anywhere that I feel anxious. Group gatherings are better if I can sit and knit while I talk to people lol.

Dogs can be really perceptive!
I was just scrolling through old BBSJ posts and the sig link caught my eye.

Also stroking cats and I reckon chickens and bunnies too reduce your anxiety
You body can't panic if your having conflicting messages
Like smiling or laughing, next time you feel panicky think of something really funny
Or eat something, your brain then thinks oh she's eating she can't be in that much danger
It's not easy to eat when feeing anxious so persevere
Go to toilet, yes really it helps
Play an an addictive game, candy crush, anything to distract you

I tried putting an elastic band around my wrist and snapping it onto my skin soon as I had a negative thought!
Did it about 10 times a minute so gave up! Very painful!

I think the best things is not to try and totally ignore it, that makes it try harder to get your attention, acknowledge it but let it know
It doesn't need to alert you,
when mine were bad I was ill and bed bound with my M.E. I'd notice a symptom like sharp pain in my head and I get all these catastrophic thoughts
OMG its a brain hemarage, Ithen the adrenal would flow I'd feel awful and think yes I was right I'm dying, more panic more symptoms etc etc
But then I'd think hmmm but these are anxiety symptoms, and I say to myself I'll check back in five mins if its still going on ill re assess things
Then I'd distract myself for five mins
It was never there after the five mins
Rationalising is a great help to me

Great ideas, Thanks! The rubber band sounds painful... I'm the same way with the "what if's.

I decided to train Jazmine myself, and with 15 minutes, she recognizes one of my three nervous ticks and puts her paw on my knee. I'll continue for a few days and get her registered.

Animals are great therapy. . Don't think I wanna try the rubber band thing .

We had a wonderful dog who was so in tune to my husband's triggers ( PTSD combat vet). She passed two months ago so we are hoping our puppies can learn his and mine ( we each claimed a dog). There are a lot of people doing therapy dogs for PTSD I wonder how often they issue *prescribe* service dogs for anxiety? It would be great to take my doggie with me. I am worse in public and need people to stay put of my bubble lol. I think just by having a dog by my side ppl will stay further away from me :)
