The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

Nice, just keep working towards shorter beaks, I would say that in a few generations you should be able to see good results.
Okay, would the Red Wheaten girl inhibit the breeding for short beaks though? She has Crow face.

I have read a small proportion of the backlog in this thread and already so impressed with your knowledge and patience! Thank you!

I am curious on your opinion on this guys colour genetics.

When I adopted him I thought he was a silver partridge. Afterwards I’ve noticed his lacing, so I’m assuming someone has had a mixed colour pen including a silver laced bird. I’m also wondering if he’s S/s+ with leakage for is something else happening with the cream colour on his hackle and wings.

I was wanting to use him to introduce the frizzle gene to salmon Faverolles and not work too hard to get back to the salmon colouring!

With the frizzle side, I understand about the incomplete dominance and importance to retain smooth feathers in the lines. However, can you tell by phenotype if the fm gene might be present? Or only by test breeding?

Thanks again!

I see that, is she the only one you have? Try to get some Aseels from breeders and see if they have short beaks. They can be quite expensive and quite pugnacious
She's my only Red Wheaten of different Bloodlines, from a Michigan breeder who was breeding them for 5yrs. I got her in a trade, they needed to add new blood. I traded 2 cockerels for 2 pullets. One of the pullets got trampled by a Turkey unfortunately though.

I found a breeder of Asils(Aseels) this year that had stock, in which males could be kept together, which I understand is rare for that breed. But they don't really have short beaks.

The only short beaked variety I've found is Old Blood Reza Aseels.

True, they are actually stocky and short... perhaps the cross of Reza and Saipans is the ticket.
I wish I had Saipans. My order with the hatchery was a flop this year. They had a bad hatch.

The Old Blood Reza I found. They're selling 6 eggs, for $250, + $28 shipping. That's a bit much for eggs.
My Malays were just as expensive.
