The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

Very rare.

For example, here's an article from 1968:
https://academic.oup.com/jhered/article-abstract/59/1/67/821031?
It references one researcher who found 3 developing eggs among 1022 unfertilized eggs.
Of those three, one chick hatched but only lived 8 days, one died on day 23 without hatching, and one died at 7 days incubation.
(That is on the first page of the article, which is all I can see.)
I just read that, while trying to find an answer. It's a very interesting topic.

Thats quite difficult to get yellow legged Black Rocks and Black Leghorns

Blue and Black Cochin bantams are both supposed to have 'swarthy yellow' shanks according to the SOP. Mine have mostly yellow legs with a faint sort of grayish tinge or wash over them which I take it to be what they mean when they say 'swarthy yellow'. I assume that means that that wash comes from E extended black? Those bright yellow legs on the bird you posted here are so eye-catching!

Speaking of Cochins, it looks like I may have hatched another birchen-based Blue from my silkieds this weekend. 😁 I'll get a picture of her later today once she's more dry and on her feet a bit better, if you wouldn't mind confirming or denying that!

@nicalandia This is the chick I was referring to in my previous post. This is E^R birchen instead of E extended black, right?

Next to a typical E based chick from my birds:

Thanks for the confirmation! That chick's parents hatched alongside the E^R cockerel I posted about either last year or early this year, so no big surprise that they're also carrying the gene. Her father especially has pretty visible lacing in his hackles and wings for a silkied bird, though he had typical E chick down so I assume he's E/E^R. I'm going to give that chick an extra leg band to keep an eye on as she grows and see how she turns out! 😁

Still thinking they're Partridge? Also looking Dun, Maybe?

Getting updated week 2 pictures tomorrow. I can get better pictures of the wings if needed. In real life there's no black in plumage.

Forgive me if this has been asked already. This is an awsome service and resource, thank you for your time (and interest!) :)
Im very new to chickens and breeding/genes. I have a splash andalusian roo Id like to experimentally breed with a speckled sussex hen, wondering what sort of phenotypes could result?
