This was a little like Lucy and her chicks. Thought we had everything set up. The brooder was ready; we figured the sides were high enough, the lamp was right; the temp was good. So off we went to pick up the chicks. Got more of an education from the helpful people at Reber Ranch. And I forgot that I knew how to count to six and had to buy eight (darn ..... )
So, if I have this right, we now have (forgive my spelling, I'm not sure this is right)
Two Americanas
Two Rhode Island Reds
Two Buff Orpingtons
Two Austrolorps
As soon as we got home and put everyone in the pen though, I decided that the pen was too big. So then we had to figure out how to block off the back. Got that figured out and then discovered that one of the Austrolorps had the idea that she was a BIG bird and should fly out of the pen. So our 10" sides had to instantly get bigger (good grief!) For being a four day old chick, this is one determined bird!
Anyway, everyone is eating and drinking and pooping all over the place ... quiet and napping at the moment. Whew.
