Sorry about that. I asked Julie where they came from and she thought it was Tricia. I have made the appropriate changes. Feel free to use the photo if you wish. After all, you produced the eggs they came from.

I have now seperated the blacks and placed a blue and splash hen from Dick Hortsman with him. The black pullet is with a Splash I picked up here locally. Not sure on his line, but was told it was a good one. He has good type and should produce some nice offspring with your black pullet.

We "sold" a pair of Buff Orp bantam juveniles at our Crossroads silent auction. Its not much, but it does increase the number of Orp Bantam owners. I have had Buffs since I was a teenager. This will be my first B/B/S Orp bantams. I like their type very much. Apparently, so did the judge at Crossroads.

Man, I sure appreciate everybody posting their pics--it really helps me look at mine better. I'm one of a very few people trying to breed purebred BantyOrps here in Northern California, and don't have a lot of others to look at (okay, I don't have ANY others to look at).

Any chance that you can post pictures of typical flaws and point them out?

Are white primaries showing up on young Blacks a bad thing? (I think yes, and that they'll be very tasty--a friend says don't worry about them, they'll moult out)

Are light nails a DQ? (I know they are in rabbits, but chickens?)

You guys are MUCH APPRECIATED!

SOP states "more than one-half inch of positive white in any part of plumage" is a disqualification. It should molt out, but if it does not and is less than 1/2, use it. Then cull after you have raised a dozen replacements.

Shanks and feet on the Buffs and whites should be pinkish white. taht includes the nails. The blacks are black in young "shading to dark slate in adults". again, bottom of feet should be pinkish white. It does not describe the nails. Blue is leaden blue, bottom of feet pinkish white. (Page 102-103, 253 SOP).
