The BANTAM ORPINGTON Thread

that will turn red roger..i have australorps that do that..if i showed you a pic of them now, you would never know it...i have a befor and after pic..as she got older, it got to be plain old red...im so used to that, i pay it no mind..funny, the backlight on this tablet might be off but it looks like a dark red on this thing..

walt, since im getting a dark red on this tablet , is it comb? wattle? whole face looks dark velvet red..that is a nice baby, how big of a deal is what your seeing? especially since ive seen baby mulberry bits and they go away end of first year....can you explain that for us? is it a big point deduction for a pullet? i think she look like every bit of her is very good..
following page im posting a very similar..he wound up champion.

I was just curious. The face looks dark on my monitor, the wattles look reddish, but not really red. Orps should have bright red faces, combs and wattles. A dark face is only a two point deduction for either sex and age.

I ain't worried to much about it, I have had that going on for a while now with my Orps. & they all end up nice & red but never messed around with bantams very much before, so they are kinda new to me, She is about 5 months old right now & her sisters are the same way, but I have never had any calmer & gentler birds than these, The little roo. I have head is nice & red & coming on relay good I think, never showed birds before so this is why I'm asking so many questions, Here is the little roo. after a dusting today, look at his head,

Roger, your bantams are stunning!! They look great. I love to look at them. I am with you these little bantams are so calm and sweet natured. I fall in love with them a little more every day.

thank you walt..the best thing is for roger to go to shows..see the other birds there..he can learn a lot..enjoy the show atmosphere.. i wouldnt like to see him discouraged..if anything he might wind up like me..just adore the english and keep them, and buy and keep sop as well..hes enjoying himself with this..i thi nk a little encouragement and advise would be good ..

in many cases hes going to be the only bantam orp person there..with dwindeling entries in areas..i think he and his wife would have a great time, meet people in person that could advise them..this is new for them ( showing)..

Even if a person does not want to show, seeing the birds in a show with 1000 birds or more is a good thing. The people will be helpful..... at least that is the what I have seen.
Entries seem to be up out here. The show last weekend usually has 8-900 birds and this time it had 1100. You never really8 know what you have unless you go to a show and see what is out there. Pictures on the net are very misleading sometimes.

They are not in our standard. That's the only standard they use. You could take a UK standard, but I don't think the judge would look at it. This is why we need to get these little guys in our standard.

They're not in the UK standard either. I was just curious if they needed a guide to judge the variety on.
