The heat and humidity almost instantly hit them. They were teleported near a canyon; Riku leaned over and looked down into it. It looked like it was either a river at some point or had suffered from years of wind erosion. Though, judging by the extreme heat, any sane person would have agreed with the latter. They began to walk, and it didn't take long until Boron and Riku started complaining.

"Why is it so hot here?" Boron muttered.

"You think you have it bad," Riku said, "I have a several inch thick coat for the freezing cold, the exact opposite of this place."
Si'ralle wasn't complaining at all. In fact, she didn't feel the heat at all. At a young age, she was genetically altered to endure any temperature, however, she couldn't stand fire. She just kept walking.

Soon, the research facility could be seen in the distance.

"Why didn't we just park the ship up close?" Boron asked.

"This is a science facility. It doesn't have any defenses. Its common courtesy to park the ship away from the building." Nakiso said as they approached the gateway. It was utterly massive; it had a smokey charcoal color to its metal, though it was dusty and began to wear slightly with age.

"Strange... normally they have shields to prevent this kind of aging..." Riku murmured, looking at the metal as Nakiso walked up to a log-in device on the wall.

Si'ralle just watched.

Si'ralle just watched.
On the side of the log-in device were the words: Gingercat Research Facility 4C - Genetic Engineering

"That another log-in device?" Boron asked Nakiso.

"Yeah... but something isn't right..." He murmured. On the hologram screen before him it read, in red text:
THIS FACILITY IS IN 100% LOCKDOWN. QUARANTINE IS ACTIVE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ENTER OR LEAVE THE FACILITY. ALL PASSAGE IS ON HOLD.

(I have a super-awesome plan :3)

"Whoa," Riku said, "what happened?"

"I don't know," Nakiso responded, "but this entire facility is completely shut down. Here... I might be able to..." He pulled out a small device. He spoke into it, "Scan for sapient lifeforms within a 10 mile radius." After about 10 seconds of the device whirring and shaking, a feminine tone spoke from the device.

"Only 4 sapient lifeforms within a 10 mile radius."

"But that's just the 4 of us! What about everyone inside the facility?" Riku exclaimed.

Nakiso's eyes widened. "There... there isn't anyone inside the facility... at least not alive. We need to find out what happened... quickly," he said, with a hint of urgency to his voice.

Nostros flew up out of bed, then he quickly lurched over in pain grasping his head. “What is it?”

“Sorry Captain.” Kasha cringed….”are you alright Sir?”

“Why wouldn’t it be… it’s just my head?” His subtle tone or sarcasm made her smile.

“We have arrived at the destination.”

For weeks Nostros had been having nightmares. He was re-dispatched to the borders. Unusual activities had been reported near the southern expanse of the Neutral zone. Their only buffer between them, the Drexian Empire, and the Battains.

“I am on my way.” He walked over and dressed in uniform while Kasha waited outside. He looked at himself in the mirror and took a deep breath. Stress lines had begun to form around his eyes. He looked over at his sash that lay across the room. He reached his hand out for it, but it didn’t move. He siged, then started to walk over to fetch his sash. He stubbed his toe on a chair after he turned. “Freak!” He was angry. Then he reached for the sash again and it flew to him instantly. He gazed at it pondering. “only when I am angry... I need to do better.”

Back on the bridge Krits was sitting in the Captains chair until Nostros arrived. Krits looked at the bump on his head. “Rough morning?”
Nostros huffed. “I don’t need to explain that to you.”

“I’m sure the newfound clumsiness will wear off when you start getting some rest.” Krits handed Nostros the new reports.

“I haven’t been the same since that virus hit, and now the King is ill.” He clenched his fist.

“Well the Geneticists are working on an antidote.” He shook his head. “I am surprised that they sent us out here in spite of that.”

“Any readings?” Nostros asked the analyzer.

“Nothing since last week.” He replied.

Shandrack ran across the surface, the heat stinging her skin. “Crut where are you?”

“Your almost there, just a few more clicks.”

She ran forward then saw the bunker. Crut reached his arms up for her and she jumped down into it. The bunker door screeched as the awful sound rushed towards them. “hurry up.” Crut bounced waiting for the door to seal. The room grew black as it closed.

The door sealed and soon after the eerie whirring noise passed over them. An emergency light came on behind them. Three survivors huddled in fear. “What if it fails.” One of them (a young female purred).

Shandrack ran over to her and touched her furry face. “It will be okay.”

“We will have to stay down here a few days until it passes.” Crut grunted as he started looking through the supplies. “not a lot here.”
The older Gingercat scientist emerged from the bunker control booth then sat down in silence.

“Three adolescents and a geriatric… what if they find us.” Crut huffed.

“You are strong enough for the rest of us.” Shandrack snapped at his insensitive remark. Shandrak glared at the lab scientist. “If we get trapped here no one may finds us. Especially after all you people on the surface are dead. Is there another way out?”

He remained silent.
_________

Three days had passed not a sound and the door melted closed in the incident. They were trapped unless by happenstance the homing beacon could transmit through the thick metal and past the atmosphere.

bump Owl your rag tag has arrived at the same location only they can't read their lifeforms unless they get closer.
