The Beagle thread: For all the beagle lovers

My parents have a strange love affair with beagles. They now have three! I never did care for the breed and their temperament, preferring a big, loyal breed who is unfazed by any distraction and will stay at your side.

I only have pics of the one, the one who started it all. Ally. She is an adorable little snot, but can be a PITA! She was over two years old when they adopted her and never had a day of obedience or potty training in her life.

They think she is a beagle/corgi. Whatever she is, the beagle part is what is in charge of her personality!

This is our Beagle Copper. He will be 14 years old in July and we have had him since he was 3. We got him after my ex-husband was going through his 2nd divorce and was going to send him to the pound. His new (soon to be ex-wife #3) woman didn't like dogs and ex-wife # 2 (& 2 kids) wanted him but couldn't take him to their apartment. My daughter begged us to take him and it was a good choice for us.

Copper is a one of a kind beagle as he doesn't roam. We live on 6.5 wooded acres which he loves to patrol ~ esp around the chicken coops. He doesn't bother the chickens at all. Our other dogs are German Shepherds ~ I'm not sure if I would get another Beagle as I don't think any could be even close to Copper!

reereechickens it looks like your pup could have some beagle in him, will probably just have to wait and see though, Aussie cattle dogs look a bit like beagles conformation wise as puppies. A friend of ours has a Aussie/Beagle mix, what a sweetie, but she has the markings of the blue merle.
I love the beagles, I could just look at beagles all the time. I am going to my moms today for my neices birthday party and trying to decide if its safe to take Annie or not. She usually goes everywhere with me, but I'm not sure if she is still "smelling good" to boy dogs at the moment, If I take her I will just have to be extra careful I guess.

Well anyway hope everyone has a great day. Will post Annie's, pics and measurements tomorrow.

Keep up the beautiful beagle pics!

Well I am a little late. The weather here has been awful, and between doing chores here at home, and work ( I work in lawn and garden at walmart) I have been cold and exhausted most of the week. They also threw some day hours in, when I usually only work nights, so totally messed up my schedule!

I weighed Annie yesterday and she was at 31 pounds. She is a tall beagle, right at the edge of acceptable heights, but she is usually around 25lbs. She really hasn't eaten anything out of the ordinary, and I am not sure if I should be concerned or not. She had her chicken thigh on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday she had a bowl of dog food (she didn't eat it) and she got one chicken gizard and one chicken heart each of those days, as well as two or three chicken strips (dog treats for healthy breath, skin, and eyes) she gets one about every other time she comes in from outside. None of these things have changed from before we bred her. Yet she looks "fat". I am concerned because I don't want her overweight as I know that makes the pregnancy and birthing harder on them. I also want to be sure she is getting enough of what she needs. I considered cutting back on the treats but don't really feel like she is getting to much there.
She also is acting completely different already. She has never been a big lover, she will come up for a pat but would rather play fetch then snuggle. The last four days I can get little done as she follows me around and as soon as I sit down she tries to climb in my lap. (shes a little big for a lap dog) I have ended up spending about an hour every night sitting on the floor with her laying on me petting her. She still will run and play outside with the big dogs. She runs so fast our Shepherd chow mix can't keep up with her, she just a little blur. Is it possible she already knows something is going on? I guess I keep thinking of people, and women don't usually even notice for a few weeks.

So to sum it up. She is eating less, but gaining weight, hard to get her to eat anything. She is very lovey and wants petted all the time unless she is outside.

I have four books coming in the mail at some point soon, then I won't have to keep harassing you all with all these questions.

I will add the picture and stomach measurement tomorrow, I hope.
