Jumping in here- yesterday I found myself saying I’d take my neighbor’s elderly friend’s little flock. The plan was to take just her three hens but I couldn’t bear to leave her rooster without his girls, so here we are. I have eight other birds, all standard size, including our rooster, but am totally new to bantam cochins.

They’ve tucked in to their own little section of my big coop, waiting on sunrise to see more of them 😌 and keeping an ear out for new rooster’s crow.

Gosh they seem delightful. I’m excited! And anxious about integrating everyone, but I seem to always add more when the yard seems too calm.
I hope it all goes well. BC roosters are notorious for picking fights with any size rooster.

I have put my frazzle Peach in broody prison, so hopefully that works. Unfortunately, my partridge BC hen decided that today was perfect timing to also go broody. They were hoarding their corner nest together this morning, and whenever one was off the nest today, the other would be on it.

Also, I suspect that this hen below with the chicks has begun laying again. Yesterday I got 3 eggs, and egg color is varying more than I would expect from two layers. She’s still mothering her babies some, but has stopped ‘clucking at food’ for them and spends a good deal of time apart from them.

Haha, oh wow.

Well here’s some good news- today I realized the BC rooster is a better match for our little flock and we’re taking the big rooster to his new farm on Tuesday. So relieved and happy, this will be good for everyone.

And I get to keep these beautiful new additions 😊

Oh my gosh, Jellybean is so naughty! He’s been kicked out of so many pens and I’m about to put him in solitary since he’s such a turd to the ladies too. We cuddle him and he wears a harness, goes to school, but man he’s no one’s favourite friend in the yard lol
