The bebe is 5 wks old...what do you guys think now?

I don't know what this little one is, it was a rescue and even though the local hatchery says BBRed, there's no 100%. It could be 5 weeks or it could be 3 weeks. >_< About how big is about "normal" for a 5-weeker? Here are a few pics I just took (the previously posted ones were from some days ago). Excuse the poop smear.

To me it looks just like my silver duckwing roo because the feathers to its neck are brownish with the white strips in the middle and if it was a silver duckwing hen she would have peach coming in on her brest feathers. I think if it was a BBRed its brest feathers would be red and its body would have more brown speckles instead of silver speckles.

chicknhawaii,

Your chick looks like a young rooster and a cross of some sort (may be a EE but I wouldn't bet on it

)
his color looks to be golden duck-wing (silver+gold as in a silver duck-wing crossed with a B.B. Red)
I don't think he is a Old English Game Bantam do to leg color (Golden OEGB's have Pink/Yellow legs as chicks) I also don't believe that he is a "brown" (Light Brown or Dark Brown) Leghorn as kcaywood suggested do to incorrect leg color and incorrect plumage color. (as chicks "brown" leghorns would range from light to dark brown with maybe some red color with in).

Below is a picture of my "brown" Leghorn for comparison. I hope this helps. Perhaps our Leghorn guru can enlighten me as whether my "brown" Leghorn is a Light Brown Leghorn or a Dark Brown Leghorn!

Aloha,

Wow! Your chick has grown from the last post. The picture in the very first post looks rooish cause the head is a close up but from the afar pic the chick reminds me pullet.
In this feathering out stage of a chicks life, I would wait just until the feathers cover all except the bebe's head. Can you take a picture of the chicks tail feathers spread in a fan like spread? I just want to see something.... I also look at the tail feathers especially at the ending two. But it may be too soon to tell. But she could just be feathering slowly for her age, just a guess though.

The comb still looks on the small side, which pushes me to say hen. I say that because the chick has no competition for food and that semi-redness could indicate that she is very healthy. But it still is on the small side not showing growth like a male would be slightly bigger and pronounced above the fluff.

Another way i like to identify the gender is by voice. If the chicks voice is on the deeper side, I would say roo. If the voice is on the higher tone chirp, it is often a hen.

I am still leaning toward female and not roo. If you could record voice of your chick and place it on here I want to listen to it. The green legs are becoming defined from the baby pictures. In fact the chick may color out to be partridge (I think that is what it is called.) in coloring like this...(note:not the greatest pic but I will take more of her when i have time)....

But time will tell... and I still do think that the chick is a hen.

No idea if that is a hen or a rooster but it is pretty for sure! I did see a rooster with about the same markings at the transfer station today tho...hmm. Roosters are always prettier lol. Mainly just wanted to say Aloha and ask you and RainbowBirds of a Feather a question. Why do all the transfer stations have chickens wandering around? Someone told me that people dump old fighting cocks there, but I see plenty hens there as well. Just curious!
