The Benefits of Guinea Fowl?

They can get loud... But they really don't carry on too much. Mine are pretty social so a lot of things that freak most out doesn't seem to affect mine.
I found they were loud till they Paired off and started laying eggs. Once that flock matured the only real noise I found was that of ALARM.... LOL when I went out in my bathrobe..... or when a visitor came...

I Have guineas for their burglar alarm qualities. Since I live soooo close to the Mexican border.

I love my guineas and cant wait till I am in the position to have them again

I have guineas and chickens and have found the Guineas to be great watchouts for the chickens. A Hawk can sore over and the Guineas will alarm the chickens to take cover.

I don't remember what guinea taste like, but I will take their eggs over any other eggs. I stay w/ a friend sometimes that raises guineas and I love when breakfast time comes and I get their eggs.

I really want some but I know they will not stay on my property. I guess I could just keep them locked up in a seperate hen house w/ a nice run attached.

They train up pretty well. Get them as keets, keep them confined to one place (the coops run for example) for 6 weeks. Once you let them go they generally come back to the coop every night with your chickens. They do occasionally stay out, but always will roost close by. Get at least 3 of them and when you start to let them go, only let one or two out at a time. The ones outside will stay close to the ones on the inside. Once they are trained, they come back to the coop every night because they know you will provide them with food and treats. These birds are the clowns of the barnyard, fun to watch and not as annoying as most would lead us to believe. Mine stayed on my property just fine. You train them just like chickens, but it takes a little longer than chickens (6 weeks vs 2 weeks) Mine come when I call the chickens in so you can get them to come home by calling for them too.

Give them a try, they are fairly inexpensive and if they wander too much, you can always eat them. They are great meat.

Not me! I have both red and buff chickens, and they totally leave them alone. But I have 30 guineas - that keeps them busy within their own flock. As a matter of fact, my hens seem to be ruling the barnyard currently.

I have 30 chickens and a couple turkeys and am considering Guineas this spring. They should be a few days old when I get them. Is it ok to raise them all together when they get older or am I going to have to train the guinea to come home, or would they follow the chickens and the turkeys?
