The best garden bantams

I have Silkies and Cochins, and they lay quite well when they AREN'T broody. Some of them give me 5 eggs a week during a hot streak. But, inevitably, they always start sitting (which suits me just fine since I like to hatch, and I don't have to use my incubator or brood chicks). My Silkies and Cochins don't do well in a free range situation, though, they're always the first to get picked off so they're always supervised when out or they stay in their run. One thing I like about my Silkies is they're flightless, so a short fence contains them easily and they can't get up on high places where they shouldn't be.

I also have Japanese bantams, they're pretty cute little birds, with their short legs and proud, upright stance. They lay okay, but probably not as good as my Silkies and Cochins (and they haven't gone broody yet). They're good foragers and didn't tear up my garden too awful bad.

OEGB are great little birds as well. They're good layers and foragers, predator savvy and they make excellent mothers.

Good luck deciding, there are so many wonderful breeds to choose from!

I have had bantam Perkins, Polish, D'uccles in the past. The Perkins usually have 2-3 eggs a week, but that's when they werent trying to be broody lol. It was about 50/50 shot with friendly vs flighty. D'uccles were a little more friendly. Laid about the same. It's all about personal preference, but I love my OEGB. The eggs are a little smaller but I get about 4-5 a week from each hen. They are all very friendly, not flighty at all. They also eat less feed and are good foragers. Plus they come in about every color under the sun :)

Really I've heard a lot of good things about OEGB but I don't really like the look the look of the game birds and I prefer feather legged
