The best time

When is the best time of day to collect the eggs? I have 3 young hen's and apparently only one is laying very early in the morning before I let them out in the run. I usually collect at noon when I clean the coop when I'm working but on my days off I've been taking it early. Any suggestions? I know the other two are late bloomers but thinking maybe leaving it until noon might give them the incentive to get with the program.

Collect as often as you can. Leaving an egg does not jumpstart late bloomers.

In winter you will be glad you are in the habit of collecting as soon as they are laid.

Mine are more pet than livestock too. Well that and company in the yard, weeders, pest control, entertainment, therapists, excellent listeners, breakfast makers and so much more.

Depends on the situation.
New layers, I like to gather frequently....just to see and to grab(or clean) up any softies and to remove any pecking temptations.
I use a fake egg in each nest for 'bait' and often swap a fakie for a real.

Otherwise, barring any issues, I gather all eggs when I lock up after dark.
