The Big Fat Is This A Rooster? Thread

Well I literally just hatched a few chicks and I think 1 of them is crowing at 3 days old. Please correct me if I am wrong. Also can I post videos so I can show you guys?

Bought 6 RIR pullets from Atwoods. Thinking they were more Straight Run Production Red. I believe I have 3 hens & 3 roo's.

All photos are at 6 wks except for last photo is at 4 weeks. I know that's early but even then I could see the difference. Also I've read about the line on RIR's head as chicks meaning hens and no line meaning roo's. I understand that's not solid to go on but if it was these would be 100% correct. Can't have Roo's in the subdivision so I'd like to send the boys off as soon as possible before I fall in love even more. Thanks!!

The first two are definitely cockerels. One rule that applies to just about every single breed is that males will start to pink up in the comb much earlier than pullets. A red comb by 10 weeks old, means cockerel. Pullets don't start to turn red in the comb until after 12 weeks old.

The first two are definitely Roos. Apart from that it's hard to tell because of the photos, if you want us to sex your bird accurately, you need to have a clear photo of each ones' head and number it - eg Chicken 1 - so that we know which bird we are dealing with.
