Sure. I have stray dogs and hawks to deal with also there are coons and other wildlife in the woods. Once the top is finished it is going to take one heck of a determined predator to get in. I am assuming that they will either give up or get shot before they can get in. If I really feel the need, I will lock the ducks in the doghouse at night, however, so far the biggest threats have been during the day.

As far as predators digging under: I suppose it could be done, but it would take one heck of an effort. First they would have to dig through the almost solid clay soil (which took me 1 hr to dig one 2' deep fence hole), then they would have to dig under the 10" diameter cedar logs which are all around the perimeter and are on top of at least a 8" extension apron of chicken wire. The logs will be staked in place so they can't be rolled.

Sure, there are always ways into a structure, but I think this should keep most predators at bay.. I am sure there is much easier food to be had in the woods. Heck, I think the neighbors have a few small teacup sized dogs outside, those would be an easier meal.. lol..

Oh, I am not getting upset by the comments, I am just pointing out how the concerns are being handled.

BTW: I did get the top covered with chicken wire today. I still have some stapling to do and then the tarp goes on and I can finally get the ducks out there..

Fortress looks great! Yeah- I would not spend much effort on a house - maybe just something they can get under. I am building one for nighttime, but I rather think my ducks are NOT going to like it. I left the front open. It's built of (free) pallets.
