the Blackest Ones: on exploring the significance of Cemani mutations

the ogye looks alot like ayam cemani. very black. People who don't get the ayam cemani where can they get the Ogye pure one in Usa? IS the meat and organs black too?

Loving the birds guys...I keep Cemanis and their shouldn't be any hint of red at all. Ewe crazy farms....I've just been sent some Svart Hona eggs from Sandra Hedre :)

If anyone is interested in black bone stock they need to let me know this coming week.

By week, I hope you mean 1 year and 6 months...
I had a project I was working on back in China. I had a couple all black breeds and was experimenting with them by seeing just how deep the pure black genetics ran. had some interesting results, some like the "Holstein" one shown on here and others where it took all the color out of the feathers and got the "regular chicken in black and white" while others were hardly affected.

One of my favorites was this one who had a white feather expression in the deep black skin.

I have left China and due to an import ban I couldnt take my hobby with me.
Really bummed out about that one because I was starting to see some really intersting things in the way that all black breeds pass on traits and I REALLY wanted to work with my grey girls, such interesting patterns.

So are there any people selling now?
My original project and hobby cant continue, but I would like to try and start a new one.
Honestly any kind that is all black would do, the more to learn the better.

Chambertin, I am sorry you lost your project. I hope you continue it where ever you land. Please keep us abreast of all your finds and developments. I'm interested in learning all I can about any and all black skinned projects.

What is the background of your patterned girl?

A Black Bone Mountain Chicken - laid green eggs! Mixed with another variety of Black Phoenix local to south China.
We bred them together and got really lucky, one was pure black and had the nice green sheen to the black and another was what you saw.
Had I known I was leaving so soon I would have taken so many more photos. Oh well, live and learn.

Those are the two traits I really want to play with the super black and the white feathers while keeping the skin and deeper black.
Something that was very interesting to find out just what was there and being passed down was to crossbreed the black breeds with the white skinned ones we had: Houdans and Orpingtons.
The stronger the black genes were the more prominent the black in the Orpington. The Houdans responded in patches of white and black, I'm guessing because of their natural mottling they had a different reaction to the gene.
We only tried it twice so there's still so much to learn about how the black gene takes over the skin color and what extra traits can be passed to other breeds or selected within the original species.

Interesting stuff.

I should be able to offer eggs from my *DipsyGoths* this fall (or whenever it cools off a bit and the birds are laying well again).
I've got large fowl Fm birds in black, blue, and splash --- single comb brown egg layers and pea-type comb blue/green egg layers.

I would absolutely love any you can sell, spare, ship!
When it gets close just PM me and we can workout whatever trade or conditions you have.

Any combination would be great, but the green eggs in particular. It might be the same breed or at least similar to the ones I had over there.
If I could get those green egg Mountain birds again, wow. They were prolific layers and quite pretty.

I still love the original pic of the blue hen you posted way back and everyone said it was in black & white, then you pointed out the straw and other birds. Some day I plan to add FM birds to my flock...

I remember that. It was funny (after I got over the shock of being accused of posting a 'tricked out' pic)

Chambertin, It depends on where your 'where next' is.

I am admittedly obsessed with black-skin birds.
