Hi guys! I'm fairly new to the chicken world and when I ran across this site I was in chicken heaven!! I got my first 4 chicks in April and by June I'm up past 100 (closer to 150) rare breed Chickens, Turkey, Quail, and Peafowl! You could say I'm a little obsessed!! 0.0 My new obsession is ordering hatching eggs right now! I'm currently using two incubators one force air with an automatic turner and one still air! I normally just transfer the eggs over the last 3 days to the still air! I never dreamed I'd love chicken keeping as much as I do! Everyone laughs at me for it! I don't see anything wrong with having chickens! I'm currently in the last stages of building a unique coop to house almost all of my breeds of chickens! I call it "the chicken condo" its basically a bunch of breeding stalls or mini hen houses with runs underneath the hen houses! We have $2,000 dollars in this coop and are in the process of putting the walls up inside all we have left are the pull out trays under the hen houses and the wire around the bottom and then we gotta cut out the doors and windows and make the ramps and feeders/automatic watering system! Hoping for it to be finished by Sunday! I searched for months to find a coop to house multiple breeding groups of different breed chickens and all I really got was a single hen house! I literally found nothing that kept each breed separate! I wanted each breed to be comfortable with laying boxes and runs in the smallest space possible! We put in 3 sky lights! Ill post pictures soon! I'm really pleased with how everything's turned out this is the first thing I've actually designed and watched come to life! I'm on this site more than I am Facebook and am always looking to learn something new about chickens! Currently
I have: White Polish, Silver Laced Polish, Golden Laced Polish, Buff Laced Polish, Mille Fleur D'uccles , Porcline D'uccles, Golden Phoenix, Silver Sebrights, Dominique's, Barred Rocks, Cream Legbars, Malays, Ameraucanas (multiple colors), White/Splash/Black/Beautiful Brown Barred color Silkies, Splash Naked Necks (Turken), Old English (multiple colors), Some unknown chicks from dark brown hatching eggs w spots?, Black tailed White Japanese, Blue Laced Tan Wyandotte, Cortunix Quail, Bobwhite Quail, Button Quail, Royal Palm Turkeys, Narragansett Turkeys, and Peafowl! I'm probably forgetting something always interested in unique breeds! Located in Pikeville, Ky!

Welcome to BYC! We are all obsessed here, although its been quite a while since I had over 100 chickens. That's quite a mixed flock you have. The dark brown eggs with spots sound like Welsummer eggs. There are some other breeds that are chocolate eggers, but Welsummers are the chocolate eggers that usually have the spots on their eggs. I'm looking forward to seeing your photos. Good luck with your flock.

Wow, you have a wonderful flock! I would bet they keep you very busy.

May they always bring you great joy! Welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you had a busy spring! Good Luck with your flock and the rest of the coop build!

Thanks guys! I thought welsummer as well after some serious research! They guy I got them from accidentally gave me the wrong carton he thought they were my turkey hatching eggs but called when I got home and said he had given me the wrong ones! Said he bought too many hatching eggs that day to know what exactly they were! 4 of the 5 have hatched since then and they are different colors weird I know! All the eggs were the same dark brown with spots! I have one that's solid white one that's white with one black feather on its wing and then one that had a tan face but now its feathering is coming in almost like a buff laced? I'm not sure what the 4th is? Blows my mind? Here's a pix of one

Oh wow everyone is so nice on this site! I just love it!! Those pics are amazing and no I've never had one of those days because I only have one chicken that is laying eggs out of close to 150 0.0 lol I just bought her last week! I bought almost all my chickens as day olds or hatched them myself! I did buy a couple chickens maybe 5-10 that were a few weeks old none were older than 6 weeks when I purchased them besides the one that's laying and an Ameraucana pair that turned out to be Easter eggers that I just sold! Errr I hate a liar! I'm just learning everyone in the chicken business is not truthful! My first batch of chicks I ever bought I paid outrageous
Prices for! 11.00 for one day old appenzeller! 25.00 for 4 barred rock day olds dyed pink (I had no clue)! Anyway all of them died with in a weeks time! Come to find out later on all her chicks were sick and she had around 70 chicks die! She sold as many sick chicks as possible! I'm just glad I hadn't bought all of my other expensive chicks when I got those! I learned a valuable lesson! But besides her chicks I've only had 2 shipped chicks out of 150 die!! (Not to bad for a beginner) Btw now most of my chicks are 6-10 weeks old!! We're gettin there!
