I had my very first broody hen a month ago. Fannie is a lovely buff orpington and was a dedicated sitter. I gave her some eggs (6 pure EE and one of her own - Dad is an EE) and 3 weeks later I had cute fuzzy butts!!!!
They are 10 days old now and following mom around the yard. The flock seems happy and harmonious with the new additions. Sid is a typical new dad....he tries to help but is really clueless. One of the chicks this weekend go lost (didn't know how to walk around the post!) and saw her siblings in the coop but couldn't get to them through the mesh. She was peeping loudly and Sid ran over, stopped and just fretted all about. It was so cute. We got the baby back in the coop and all was well.
I'll post more pictures when I download them off the camera.
