Great history and building. I love the look of the bricks in their natural state. You could always use that old iron bed in your chicken run or yard where they free range. (not sure which your planning) I'm sure those birds would love to play on it. If you build a run, you could build the upside down boxes w/ the screen for grasses and use the headboard at one end & the footboard at the other for a perpetual "bed" of grass.

Thats a really good idea! I cannot free range as my dogs would make quick work of the chooks, so I will be building a run. I saw that "upside down box" idea on a thread the other day and thought it was a great idea, and using the bed frame would be pretty cool.
I just wanted to say THANKS to everyone for all the nice posts. What a nice little community. We went over to a neighbors just this evening who just got 25 BAs, and my girlfriend was all "Where'd you learn all of this stuff??" since I don't even have any chicks yet! I was like, "hey babe, I been BUSY readin'!" Thanks to everyone for all the advice and cool remarks.
