Disturb the nest. candle. if you have a rotten egg and it explodes it will send bacteria over all the others. What i do is take the duck out and close the door so she can't run right back in. They usually will go and eat and poop and swim if she has water close by, while the door is closed i gather the eggs in a basket with a towel lining it cover the eggs and take them where it's dark, My feed room works good. At day 28 you should have a full eggs with air cell in fat end. Let us know what you see, When I'm thru candling I take the eggs back open the door and in goes mama right back on the nest.Question, I was able to see the eggs yesterday the my Rouen has been sitting on. There was only 4 However I thought there should be more. She has kicked some out in the past that I collected and threw away. It's been 28 days since she's been sitting as of today. When I saw the eggs yesterday tho one of the 3 was a grey color compared to the other white eggs. I've read it could be rotten? But why would she not kick it out like the others??? I left it in there bc I didn't want to disturb the nest.
They know what they are doing just some ducks don't go broody. Hard to believe that when my Muscovy's don't even have to have any eggs under them before they go broody. Crazy things. I candle on day 7 day 21 and day 28 but Scovy's hatch later than other breeds sometimes i even candle more often especially if I want to show dh the duckling moving around in the egg. It's fun to candle and my ducks don't mind a bit.Thank you. I don't understand why she isn't sitting on them at night. I hope she knows what she's doing, lol. She did kick some eggs out of the nest today. When should I try to candle the other eggs?

Be sure to candle the egg before tossing. But handle carefully you don't want it to explode on you either. Phew wee. lolI think I'll watch for her to get off the nest to get the greyish one. She's been very protective past couple days with me just trying to refill feeder. I don't want to force or put up a fight to get her off eggs bc I don't know if any in the process of hatching. Hopefully the egg doesn't explode lol that sounds gross lol

Did not catch her off the nest tonight. Prob better chance tomorrow. Oh yes I'm definitely going to be careful with that egg!!! I will CAREFULLY candle it tho too! There was 2 more eggs kicked off the nest tonight in a corner gonna assume I just didn't see them before. I hope at least one hatches. That would be a lot of work for her if none did
If she's sitting tight something must be going on under her hope it's ducklings hatching. you should know today.![]()
