Yesterday my broody hatched 3 chicks, one egg was left. I found the hen dead this morning, and she had left the chicks alone. I tried to warm them, but only one survived, the other two were stone cold.
I don't have a brooder, I can't leave home because of the prohibitions about Coronavirus and all the shops are closed because it's monday.
I put him in a box with a heating cable for reptiles (my mum used it for to keep the temperature constant to grow yeast for the bread) and I set the temperature of 90°F, but it cannot reach the temperature and the probe says that there are only 80 ° F. I put a sweatshirt over the wire to help raise the temperature, but it seems not to work. Have you hot any advices? I would be really grateful for any little advice

My broody hen attacked a clutch of eggs the other day with 8 days left, i’ve been left with 4 that are now doing quite well. I’m glad at least 1 is ok at the moment. The reptile lamp is a good idea, do you have a heated blanket or anything that you could put at the bottom of the box?

If you don’t have a heated blanket then maybe wrap some cardboard around the box or whatever you’re keeping them in, this will provide insulation. Remember to keep them in a draft free area. Maybe put him in the sun? What have you got on the bottom of your enclosure for the chick?

I put him in a cartboard box with some wood sharvings. I only have a pillow that warms up, but the heat lasts only about twenty minutes and I can't leave it attached to the socket because it risks going on fire. He is currently at home with me, it's cold outside and there is a lot of wind, without a shred of sun. Thanks a lot for all the tips. Unfortunately the chick in the egg didn't make it

Wire cover had a towel over it and heating pad had a towel over it, with egg on wet paper towel . Had to wet paper towel over again as needed to keep from drying out
