The broody left me with a day old chick

I put some heavy blankets all around the box and now the temperature is around 85°F (But the heating wire stopped to be in function, so there should be 90°F)
That was a good idea, that will definitely keep warmth in and keep out drafts. See how he/she goes and keep us updated. I think that temperature should be ok 👍🏻. Let’s hope the little one does ok.

Yesterday my broody hatched 3 chicks, one egg was left. I found the hen dead this morning, and she had left the chicks alone. I tried to warm them, but only one survived, the other two were stone cold.
I don't have a brooder, I can't leave home because of the prohibitions about Coronavirus and all the shops are closed because it's monday.
I put him in a box with a heating cable for reptiles (my mum used it for to keep the temperature constant to grow yeast for the bread) and I set the temperature of 90°F, but it cannot reach the temperature and the probe says that there are only 80 ° F. I put a sweatshirt over the wire to help raise the temperature, but it seems not to work. Have you hot any advices? I would be really grateful for any little advice
I rarely get broody hens any more and when I did they never stayed on an egg the full term. So i don't even fool with it. All eggs are hatched by humans now.

Brooders dont have to be fancy and can be easy to build. A dog crate can be a brooder so long as they have an appropriate and adequate heat source (light bulb). I used a 75 gal. Aquarium before I built mine from scrap wood i had laying around.

Internet purchases not available? No delivery? Why are shops closed on mondays?

For now he is in a cardboard box with blankets all around and a heating wire on the top. In Italy (or at least, where I live, away from big cities) the shops, with the exception of the most important and bigger ones like supermarkets and the shopping centers, are usually closed on Sundays and Mondays. Buying online would take a few days to get it, so in any case I would not have known how to warm the chick in the meantime.

Sounds like you’ve done really well! How is the chick now?

I was just curious about the monday closures. Here in the states, many places still close on Sundays, but Monday is the most despised day of the week.
