The Silkies have their own little coop! They do fine in the winter weather, so far anyway!

I was gonna stick some of the Del eggs under them, but I was afraid I would break their broodiness, so I didn't. I don't want any more Silkies, just the ones I have. I just gave up, and let them sit on their own eggs. My plan now is to let them set, and then replace the eggs with the new chicks due at Christmas! LOL I dunno ???? With having 4 broody Silkies, I am hoping they will raise this next batch that is in the bator now! Maybe!

Kathy, I can send them 24 Mille Fleur D'uccles to raise! That ought to change at least one or two of their broody moods!

Do most folks with Silkies leave the broody and chicks in with the main flock? From all I've heard about their huge desire to mother something, seems it would be easier with that breed than any other, since the other hens would be less likely to hurt the chicks. Or am I off base?

My silkies alway hatch them very well but do not tend to be very good mothers. If I leave them in with the flock the babies seem to disapear. Also at night they roost and just leave the babies.

I can`t say that about my silkie, she hatched out 5 babies a few months back and she would not let anything or anyone around them, she would charge you it you came to close it was so funny like who would be afraid of you you little puff ball.At night she made sure they were all under her and when they got to big for that they layed on top of her.
