Do they lay about as good as the buckeyes?

LMBO!!! NO!!! They are among the POOR layers. On average about 100 eggs a year from Cornish.

So true! But they have many other great qualities that I know I will always have pure Cornish here. I love their personalities over all my other breeds, including NNs. It's the Dark Cornish pullets that gang me when I try to sit and watch the birds. They are on me like crows, from my knees to my head. And yes, I do get 'fertilized' once in a while.

See, my Cornish are opposite, they are screaming freaks until they are about 7-8 months old and settle down. Then I have to work on them in a pen where I am in there every day to get them used to me. But I don't sit out with my birds much. I do chores, clean up, mowing, maybe stand to observe, but I don't hang out with them for relaxation. If I do that my husband will lock me in the loony bin for sure!

Haa haaaa!!! Hellbender, that's true love ;-) My Cornish are like yours, they come running over and will eat out of my hand. But if I try to touch or catch one they are GONE. I guess my chickens got used to being stared at each day- it doesn't freak them out any more. It's good they don't know what I am thinking.

When you're my age and have two adult kids living with you who love working with our birds and animals, sitting with the birds is one of the perk. I'm having some health issues at this time that are a bit debilitating so I get to play-hooky for the time being.

Chicken watching is definitely good for body and soul!

Hope you feel better soon.

I'm sure I will. Thank you very much. I have a 'date' with a skilled surgeon in NYNY, coming up very soon. It will either cure or kill me....I guess that's only about half a joke because anytime one goes 'under', there's no certainty of waking up. I a tough 'ol Hillbilly and I have survived far more serious situations...
