The pea comb size varies between the sexes in Buckeyes:

next time you are at a show check out the male Cornish. Pea combs should look like three rows of peas.

I'm thankful I only have two breeds to keep track of -- you're asked to comment and judge them all.

I don't know how APA judges keep up with every little nuance unless they have a photographic memory. I guess that if two birds are evenly matched and the difference comes down to the comb (which would be a very rare occurrence), then they would consult their SOP. Even then, would the size of a comb be somewhat subjective?

They/me should always consult the SOP when dealing with a breed they may not see often. One of the best things breed clubs or breeders can do is to educate judges. Judges may act like they are not paying attention, but it does a lot of good educating the judges.
