Medic, you have a very good point. I do like to use 2X4s that are rounded on the corners, but I rip them down to 2x2s and turn so the sharp corners are down and not roughing their feet. But being as soft of a wood as cedar is, it wears down so the grains do raise up, so to speak. I keep my roosts fairly low, one about 9" and the other about 18" off the floor too, so it is not a big impact on the feet, which is another cause of bumblefoot, that hard landing from having the roosts too high on heavier fowl like the Buckeyes should be.

Anyone who says that it is easy hasn't been doing it long. Generally when you think that,You have not done this for 5 years or more. Many newer breeders breed themselves into a corner around the 5 year mark and that is when they find out how hard this is. No one I know thinks breeding to a Standard is easy. It's easy to say that it's easy.

Our lay line eggs from @SRHartley are on day 5 11/12 arr looking good and #12 is a definite maybe. Nice guy with beautiful buckeyes we're very excited to have buckeye again. We were looking for 2 years since a coon got ours

Jeff has done a great job with his buckeyes! I am just glad I can help pass on and hopefully add to what he and others have improved on already. I hope you have a great hatch!

We all have periods of accolade and pride, failures and falls. How we deal with the wreckage in what separates us in the final analysis, one must always remember, the sword is double-edged.

Those who rise too quickly frequently fall hardest. If they have the fortitude to stand up, shake themselves off and proceed with re-building, without taking time to blame others for their failures, might have what it takes to get to the pinnacle of success, even if they thought they had already been there.

Hello everyone, I 'm new here and I am very keen on Buckeyes. I had some hatching eggs custom incubated (to make sure that everything would go well! LOL ) , but there was a mixup and I am pretty sure that none of the 22 chicks I got are actually Buckeyes. :-( I am getting another 2 dozen eggs, they are going in my incubator on May 23rd. (lesson learned). Wish me luck!

I just received 3 dozen Buckeye hatching eggs from Saskatchewan yesterday. There's some wonky air cells, so I'm not putting in incubator until this afternoon.

Maybe if you're nearby & I have enough chicks hatch out, we could do a deal?

Hi Shellz it's me Robbie down the road in Cadmus! I picked out the chicks that looked most like Buckeyes, but I think they are all red sex link/easter egger/ whatever mixes. I am still waiting to see as they feather out. Small world!!!
They wouldn't allow me to use Robbie on this forum, there must be others with that name. I am getting 2 dozen eggs ( 1 doz. dark cornish, 1 dozen Buckeye) from Shaded next weekend so although I'd dearly love to take you up on your deal, I will have a full house. Perhaps next year we can swap Buckeye genes ! I believe shaded has some Lay birds in her flock, I will have to double check.

I thought it might be you. Yeah, switching gears here. Selling Malines flock to raise a few Buckeyes. The idea is to simplify - just keep 3-4 laying hens. Dark Cornish are nice too.

I've seen pure buckeye chicks on FB that have stripes too. Colouring can be variable with them. Proof will be when they get their adult feathers.
