The Buckeye Thread

Change of gears please. I'm looking for my 3rd cock for the winter and can't decide between the two in the following pictures. I've selected the one with the band on his leg but the other looks nice also. I thought I'd post a couple pictures and seek your inputs if you would; please?

I like the comb for the one on the left.

I see more even color for the one on the right but that might just be the angle.

head shot and good comb comparison.
In pictures not posted, the one on the left has a broader stance and seems more sure of himself.

How old are these guys again? Get some good side shots too. I like to see breast development and how they hold themselves as viewed from the side. That way I can see their back angles and tail angles, how they hold their wings and so forth.

I'm just starting out and don't know much, but if you don't mind I'll practice on your very nice roosters. I think from the pictures the one on the right looks to have a longer, lighter build- have you weighed them? I'd compare the back width on the two as well, to see which one had the better back. I can see that it's tough to choose when you have such nice ones. The second one has smaller wattles which I like. If I only had to choose from the pictures I'd have picked the one on the left too.
Is the cockerel in the background the same age as these two?

As you know, getting the two birds you're interested in to pose together is as rare as snow in Oklahoma in July. I don't think that will ever happen again.

However, I lost count of their age but are older than 4 months, maybe 5. I'll see what I can do with further pictures. I'm blessed to have such great stock to choose from.
CB- Thank you for the compliment. This is the first generation from the line I got from MCM. She's awesome to work with.

The bird you refer to is a bit younger. Unfortunately, I can't keep all of my birds through the winter so I have only 1 week left until I have to decide. Is there a chance you can make it here so you can pick one up? LOL

I'll do you one better than pictures. Videos often work better for me so here we go. Separate videos for each bird:

#1 -

AND

#2 -

In the meantime, I wish you all the best for the upcoming year!

Are you in the US?

Both are light in color and narrow in the back as they lead back to the tail. If you have to have one, the bird on the right (smaller comb) is a better speciman IMO, he is tighter feathered and appears wider in the front....with that being said, 5 months is too young for selection. They are no where near done developing. If they are Theri's they should have a decent build up front too them. The Urch stuff was good for that. What does the undercolor look like in the hens and the males you like?
