Looking forward to seeing pictures of the latest pea palace developments, fbc...it's hard to visualize from the description.
Are they going to be able to go in and out during the winter? Or does your bad weather mean they need to be inside and protected from the elements all of the time?
Have you posted a picture of your white Thangette, Mmmaddie?
The OpalB/S and the Bronze birds inside pens do have doors cut thru the walls already and they can freely go outside into the same runs they was in all summer. I am keeping these birds inside for a few days tho until they realize this is where their feed and water will be from now on.I had the cut-out opening blocked all summer so they couldn't get inside because I didn't have their inside pens completed yet.I always, always wait until the last minute to spend the money, then do the building. Every pen I build inside along the west wall will not have openings cut in the walls until next spring, when once again I build pens on the west side of the palace. The Midnights and Purples will be inside 100% of the time from now until spring.Bandbaustin told me he has inside shelter for all his birds, yet they never go inside even during a snowstorm.Mine won't be allowed to get snowed on.We get windchills here 20-30 degrees below zero and since I took the expense to build this they will use it.No excuse for frostbite.
new 2 pfowl, yes I have, but not many. It's Wylie. This booger:
I don't have many pictures of him but I'll try to take more tomorrow. He's a cutie. I take more videos of him than pictures because he's usually displaying when I'm around him.
I also have two "purpley" Thangettes, one is pied.
Sorry Randy! You can have your thread back. I am just proud of my Thang babies!
I'm also very excited to see pictures of the upgrades. My mini-pea-palace is almost complete.
Check the Thang Love thread for recently added pics of Thang. Now for some updates on more hours spent constructing the inside building for Pea habitation.the wind of course blew with gusts topping 35mph all weekend here.My first order of business before the expected rain was to get the splash boards installed under the wall sheet metal.I used deck boards that are CCA treated and about 5 3/4" wide.Since my wall posts was set in concrete it took some measuring and cutting where these boards was nailed to these posts.the wall posts are 4"x4" CCA treated spaced every 6' apart.the deck boards I bought was 12' long,so they are attached to 3 posts, one on each end and the one post in the middle.I first had to make sure the deck boards were cut exactly so they would attach in the middle of each outside post as well as cutting the correct amount out around each post where the concrete was above ground level somewhat. Here is a picture of the South side with the boards already installed with fresh dirt packed along them to stop the drafts.
Here is 2 pictures now of the west side of the building.I still have 1 last piece of sheet metal to attach but it's very convenient for getting outside on this side of the building. This picture shows the new boards with dirt packed up against them
This picture taken from far away shows the vast expanse of Pea Palace west side expansion if needed.I have equal space here to build exactly identical pens that I now have on the east side. The east side aviary is a total of 50'x50' square and this available space for the west side is the same giving me a possible of another 8-10 breeding pens depending on final sizes for each pen.
For comparision, here is Pea Palace east side edition,,almost completely deserted like Pripyat, the now famous ghost town near Chernobyl. I still have 4 ornamental pheasants and the 4 BSSP peas here but by the weekend they will all be inside the building
