The Button Quail Hotel....

I seperated the one that bopped her head and her mate (they're back in their aquarium) The other 6 like to stick to the bottom. When I woke up, one of them had made their way to the first level but decided I was scary and went back down to the bottom!

I think it'll be awesome once they all settle down. The male that was seperated w/ his mate had been chasing everyone around so in some ways it's good that he's out of there for now. This way they can all settle and then I'll put those 2 back in. It's funny, they have this huge cage (almost as tall as me...I think it's about 5ft tall and 3 ft wide?) with 4 different levels...and they all stick to the bottom

Mine are still stickng to the bottom as well! They have food and water on the middle floor and the bottom floor, but they were starving to death because they are to scared to go up a ramp!

silly birds! I think I might just make them be seperate. I can close off the top half, and there are doors for both top and bottom. If they get too crowded and don't figure it out for themselves I may just have to do that!

I've thought of closing off the levels too, but they're actually spreading out more now. I have food and water at each of the 4 levels but they definitely wiped out the bottom level first.

Buttons are generally ground dwellers, so I'm surprised to hear they're using the upper levels.

Buttons are ground dwellers, like Mrs. AK said. You might want to find some plastic lunch trays and divide the cage into 4 sections. And keep a pair in each section. Give them ground cover type things to hide in on the bottom of each level.
Artifical vines seem to work well...along with pieces of branches.
That is a cute cage and set up. But your buttons will probably all stay in the bottom unless you section the levels off.

Shelley, They've only been in there for a couple of days.
Mrs. AK & Skyesrocket, They're actually doing pretty good, spreading out to the different levels. I'm going to leave them alone for a week or so and then re-evaluate the housing thing. If in that time they are utilizing the whole cage, I'll probably leave them be. If they seem to cluster together, I'll spread them out and close of the levels.

that they stick with spreading out! It's really cool watching them go up and down the different levels.

maybe if you put a yummy treat on an upper level?...( maybe scrambled eggs!...i'll bring you some eggs when i pick up the quail eggs...

..)and show them where the treat is..they might figure it out...to go between the levels if you put a treat or 2 on the other levels....good luck!
