THE CHEEPS ALMOST GOT ME!!!

Pics
Oh, yeah - they only had 23 Speckled and they had just arrived. I had no chance! I ended up with two Speckled and two EEs and restrained myself as I still have to integrate the bantam group! No integration yet, Wilco group still sharing the guest room with Nibbler (the Holland Lop), but I am hoping for integration of both chick groups over the next month. Fingers crossed!
OH FLUFF BUTTS!!!! EEEEEK! AND THOSE CHEEKS! So adorable! We have bunnies too! One holland lop (Butterscotch) and two Lion/Netherlands (Candy & Poppy). Back to integration - I think that makes me worry the most of getting new chicks. My existing flock still has their squabbles sometimes. I don't want to throw in juvenile's in there. My girls can be mean!

LMAO!!!:lau So ironically, when I first read "Wilco" at the beginning of your post I instantly thought of the Wilco in Puyallup!!! Then turns out, that's the exact one youre talking about!! Yeah, im a huge sucker too and have to willfully stay out of Wilco and Coastals (in Auburn) because I just know ill impulse buy more cutsie chicks!!:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:goodpost:

Same here... Always a little worried about integration. Luckily, I only have two hens to add them to - a five year old Welsummer and and a three or so year old Bantam Cochin hen. Plus the Bantam rooster. The Bantams were all out together today with only minor rooster action though I was there to act as supervisor. They still stay in separate coops.
Then, there's the Wilco group! That insanely adorable EE (Lucille 2) with the crazy cheeks is now a huge monster! I'm pretty sure that she is a pullet, but she's enormous (like twice the size of the other EE {Lucille} and they were the same size when I got them) and extremely bold. Pretty sure she's my future queen bee.
Love bunnies!!! I have my tiny house bunny and some greenhouse/garden bunnies (Fry and Meatbag) that live outdoors. They are New Zealand Reds. Love this thread!

Intervention:
Our local feed store just had a deal last weekend of 5 free pullets (of their choice) with a sack of feed. Oh my, was that ever tempting after reading the ad that came by mail. So, I went into the feed store on the day before the sale. Funny thing is, I found myself closely following another gal who was quickly staking around all the bins with the heat lamps & chicks. She paused to look at who was following her & I said, "looks like I'm here for the same reason, my chick fix." We both laughed & agreed not to buy any & was happy to see that someone else had the same "chick fix" affliction. I jokingly (I think) said to my hubby, just to tease him 'cause he knows my past with chickens, "I think I'll pick up those 5 free pullets this weekend." He said, "you're obsessed again." Boy, he has a lot of nerve saying that & didn't even try the ole' reverse psychology. Oh...... he's right again!

Then I thought it over..........if I brought home those pullets, then I'd have to care for them in a brooder for wks, then put them in a pen in the coop to socialize, then....... Heck, those chicks wouldn't start laying until October or so. Furthermore, I have some 4 & 6 wk olds now to care for until integrating into the flock to start laying around Sept. here in Oregon. There, I talked myself out of it, came home, & admired what I had planned with the pullets in the coop now. It's so exciting when they start laying. Good luck with all that, I'm here if you need to talk it out & so are lots of other BYC'ers. Best wishes.

5 free chicks with a sack of feed. I’d buy 5 bags and get 25 baby chicks. Maybe if you talk nice you could pick them out from the free chick bin. I’d pick brown egg layers -if it was me

Fry and Meatbag!?!?!??! HAHAHAHAHAHHA. That is hilarious! Share pics of your animals. I gotta see this huge EE. I feel like I have a couple queen b's. I am not entirely sure who is on top just yet. I can tell you who is on bottom though! They are put in their place and dodge around some of the other girls pretty quick.

Just think, you'll be raising her status by bringing in newbies! :thumbsup

GENIUS. They need all the help they can get! My BCMs are mean sassy girls. And I've even seen my little bantam EE get into it with one of the LF girls! So I know she has a place in the top 5 or so. It's one of my White Leghorns and a RIR that are low.
