The CHICKEN MATH Contest- Who has the worst case?

Your original planned amount 2 pretty birds <-pets with eggs as a bonus
What you actually got 6 high producing varieties
Why (Edit: This is optional) I got obsessed with having a multicolored basket on the counter. My 6 hens lay 6 different colors.
Rank your case: Mild. I have the most I'm allowed for my area (though if I find a blue/red laced wyandotte I'm totally smuggling in another) and the most that will fit in my coop. I've already done one addition on the coop lol.

I wanted 2 chickens to eat the spiders in our yard, but decided I better get 3 in case something happened to one. I wanted Welsummers. I ended up hatching one mix chick, buying two FBCM chicks, they died so I replaced them with 4 Easter Eggers and 2 Bantam Cochins (bantams are so little they don't really count right? Right?) One of the EE died, so A week later I got 3 SLW to replace her, then a week after that I promised my husband that I wouldn't buy anymore mere minutes before spying the Australorps in the bin and had to get 2 so the one I wanted wouldn't be lonely. I say I'm done for the year but I still don't have any Welsummers....lol

i originally set out around 1 1/2 yrs ago with intentions of keeping 1 roo and 6 hens. that turned into 12. then 15.then 21. then 25. i currently have 73! however around 35 of those are headed to freezer camp very soon (30 of those are cornish crosses). i rate my case as....severe!

So help, I think Chicken Math has struck here.

I'm an "urban farmer" and supposed to be doing chickens somewhat under the radar. They aren't exactly illegal, but the city has some funny restrictions...

Planned on having 4 hens. When we went to pick up our chicks impulsed on 2 ducklings. Then one of the hens ended up being a rooster. Built them all a run and decided we needed some new babies to fill the run and replace the rooster. Something gets in the run and kills 2. So order 6 new babies to replace those lost.

So...

4 + 2 - 1 +8 -2 +6= 17 poultry

Four times our original starting number...I know it's not the largest amount, but I think I have a pretty bad case...

lol I don't think you're too bad yet. :) I originally wanted 4 hens, but feed store only sells them in groups of six. So I pick six Banty and head home, next day one dies and since they lay small eggs anyway I decide I need to have a couple big girls in the group. Go back to feed store and once again have to purchase 6 so I get 4 RSL and 2 SLW. Few weeks later I find out some chickens lay green/blue eggs, decide I have to have them and buy 3 straight run EE from a breeder. Over the next few weeks I discover 2 of my Banty are Roos and 1 of my EE. Decide to build a second coup just for the bantys and realize I need more girls since only 3 bantam are pullets. I now have 23 Bantam EE eggs in the incubator.

I love chicken math!... Hubby not so much. lol Oh and I'm putting in an order to Meyer Hatchery this Nov for 2 Polish, 1 cochin, 1 dark cornish and a meyer mealmaker for pickup next spring...Hubby doesn't know about the mealmaker. I'll just claim it must have been a packing peanut.

So ...
6 - 1 + 6 + 3 + 5 = 19 birds + 23 eggs = 42.....I think I'm now considered a severe case.

Oh yes, if you only wanted 4 to start out with as well you have it worse than me, LOL. I am supposed to be keeping it under the radar though - so much for that! My neighbor has already noticed the ducks. I might have to bribe him with eggs.

I posted before, anyway here goes. 3 years ago I wanted 3 or 4, but then I didn't think it was possible. My dream comes back about a year later and I was planing for 6 or 7. Last year I got 9 but one died(an EE). This year I planned for 3 or 4 more but came home with 6, then one died (an EE). My friend had to move so she gave me 3 EEs, then one died. Now my Buff Orp has turned out to be a cockerel so he is going to leave, unfortunately. So at the moment I have 15 but will have 14 soon. But I am still planing for next year to get 3, if my loving parents permit. I don't think it's too bad. Do you? :)

I'm pretty sure everyone has used the "packing peanut" excuse on their spouse lol so far I have about 5 packing peanuts coming in a couple orders hubby doesn't know about..

Your EE's must be cursed! They keep dying!
