We should SO rename this thread "Who likes colorful flocks?" lol! That's a wonderful collection, Nelson 90! And dang, I totally forgot about the EEs and Ameraucanas -- I'd love to have some blue eggs!

How do you like your Orpingtons? They're a breed I haven't ventured into yet, simply because I haven't gotten a sense that they have any one outstanding feature that some other breed doesn't have. What do you like best about them?

Well it is a super addictive thing those poultry...

As far the turkey go mine are great with my chickens and they all look out for one another and communicate well. They have certain times they dont want to be near each other but they figure that all out and go about their day.. They love getting in trees. on the coop , on the trucks and on the house, its just their nature. They gobble at anyone they do not know or find intimidating which I like because I always know if someone is coming or on my property. Just check about the blackhead and you are good to go.. I wish you all the luck and if you ever have questions I would be more than happy to help. You also need to choose a breed....

I have 10 more coming in a couple days and that will be 32 including my turkeys.. It adds up so quick. We are planning a larger coop next spring. I am going to go ahead and make a coop to hold about 75 this time becuase I plan on incubating next spring.

Thanks so much, maidenwolf! Except... you're kidding, right? Choose a breed? A breed?

Actually, I think I want to start with some bourbon reds, because I've heard such wonderful things about their taste. But the royal palms are just too cool-looking! And of course I have to have Narragansetts someday because I'm a native New Englander...

*sigh* Here we go again!

LOL right.. You cant choose just one. the royal palm is one of your smallest breeds, doesnt dress well but are just darn good looking birds. Narragansetts are my fav they are so handsome. I wanted that to be my breeding project but cant find a female yet... "SIGH" The black spanish have huge personalities and are very attention hungry lol.. I have heard good things about bourbon reds but have yet to get any.. maybe next year..

Taking notes...when building coop for the 8 I want to get...build big enough to at least double.... got it!

Well, right now we have horses boarding in the barn who are supposed to be going to a new home sometime soon. I love love love having them here and will miss them! On the other hand, I keep eyeing their stalls, all of which have turkey-sized doors to the outside already installed... (Old tenants used to have dogs in them). So if they do move, I could easily do a dozen turkeys or two dozen chooks per stall...

The chicken shed now really shouldn't have more than 20 chickens in it, although the run's big enough for more than that. It's going to be a tight squeeze until I eat or sell some of the current crop, or a stall is free :)

Well hopefully the stalls open up for you, that would be great it is already ready for you. But depending on when you wanted turkeys you may have awhile to wait..
