The Chicken Mission - A Philanthropic Chicken Adventure

I hope all is well with you and you are settled back in.

Yes, calming down a bit. Road/travel weary.

Took Mom to Birmingham, AL, to see brother for a few days. Moved out of ICU (29 days) on Friday, Mom's birthday....(she was thrilled)... to a room, starting to turn a corner. Unable to close stomach surgical wound yet. (apprx. 14 x 5 x 4 inch's, spleen was 11 x 4 x 2 inch's post bleed out, weighed about 3 pounds)
Waiting for small tear/hole to close at the top of the stomach, able to have ice chips now, slow go. Probably 2 to 3 weeks to be out of the woods.

I'm exhausted, glad to finally be home and settled down. My back is miserable but will eventually relax too. Now, just some quality sleep time and I'll be good as new....errr well, good as can be! ;) Aging process can be so demanding at times. :)

Time for me to get back to my(our) chickens....looking forward to hatching again soon.

So proud for ya'll and your chicken venture in the Phillipines, Afraid I am not well experienced with eye clinics, need to study up...DH has initially said no trips for a couple of years. $$$$ However, something like this might work for us. Hoping you great success with this venture!! And with some luck and planning on our part, you will consider us on your list. Sounds awesome......except, no duck eggs for us...heehee Chirp

I am so glad its working out for your brother.

The eye exams are pretty easy.

An eye chart for kids to make sure they can see the blackboard. Reading glass samples for older adults and cataract visual exams.

You are on the list!

That makes 3.

I am going to push forward with it. I hope I can find 3 more participants but if not, we can proceed with 3.

I will just adjust the transport and offer bunk house living at our place if you guys are up for it. We can really only fit 4 guests in our house. Our spare room has a king bed and a set of bunks. The price differential is only 45 bucks.

We have to file a claim $$$ with Holland America since the flight They booked for us was delayed 2 hours 45 minutes, caused us to miss our connection in Houston to Vancouver, AK, 4 hours later caught flight to Seattle, WA, then 3 hours later to Juneau. Had to find lodging etc. 16 hours...missed 2 nights, 3 days of our cruise. Total time on boat 14 hours. Thankfully we bought insurance....... Like I said, travel/road weary.... The remainder of the trip on trains, buses, shuttles, long, long rides. Remarkably, we did have some fun and have great memories. Don't know that we'll ever let a professional travel agent manage things again, too much confusion from the beginning. Perhaps we would be able closer to the October trip, since spring will be here before we know it. However it would be a neat B'day present for me. I know we both would like the 7 day itinerary vs extended, hard to travel for longer than that with dog and chickens at home. I'll get DH to check on vacation days etc. Accommodations, we would go with the flow. Also need to check with our accountant since taxes are soon to be around the corner. Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us. We'll stay in touch. Chirp

I don't mind sleeping on the veranda lol.

At my end, I am working on a plan to cement an event to raise funds to not only get me there, but also contribute some extra supplies. Logistically it is a huge feat, but we are moving forward. I am on the "busting my hump to make this happen" list.

So the plan is pushing forward.

It's evolving as we plan.

Mrs Oz is having lunch with a doctor that serves a mountain village not far from us. They will talk about community needs and will develop the medical side from that chat. When they decide what's best, we will replicate it in a second site in our area.

While I want to have lots of chickens to give away, I won't hatch them too early as I don't want the extra feed bill for 200 birds.

The plan is to give away cross breeds. I will cover RIR and RIR crosses with a Marans roo. We should have enough eggs collected in 3 weeks and will start incubating beginning of November. They should be point of lay by the end of March.

I still have open slots for those interested in giving to people who really need it.

We would love to have you come over and let me show you around our part of an amazing country.

I am working on it.

In training for my fundraiser. This month I have almost achieved my 200km goal, Sunday's run will push me over that. My distances are getting longer in preparation for the BIG one. The logistics behind it have been big, but we hope to have something sorted that will raise enough to make a difference.

Hard work but I am getting there. Would be so much easier if I just had the money hahahaha

you are an inspiration Bed

It would be great if others could follow your lead and get creative.

This will be a great adventure. It will give people the opportunity to not only help people that genuinely need it but also the chance to see a country so different to their own in a way that few get an opportunity to do.

Is there any benefit from someone with no clinical background going? If so I might be able to convince my beloved to let me go. He has two boys trips planned so this may balance the scales. Don't want to fight the fight unless I could be useful though.
