My new baby chicks just arrived from MPC on Tuesday! Been busy using my vacation days to clean around the house, but here are some pics of them.
I have one Jersey Giant, 2 EEs, 1 Welsummer, and 2 Golden Comets.
And THIS is how much poop 6 baby chicks make in 6 hours.
I swear I haven't been messing with them except to take these photos! They're in the garage, so they're pretty much alone all day besides the crickets.
As of today, I've moved them off of towels and onto pine shavings, as they seem to get the idea of where their food is pretty well and the towel method left my garage smelling very...ripe. :| They keep pecking and playing with the bedding, but I assume it's because it's a 'new' thing. I also had to raise their water dish up about an inch to keep them from kicking as much bedding into it.
I've read that some people advise against using pine shavings because of the smell? But to be honest, I stuck my nose into the package and it didn't smell at all to me. I got it from the pet store because all the hardware store had was cedar, so maybe that's why it's less aromatic, I don't know.
