The Chronicles of Samson: Olympic Diver

Have you tried putting a bit of food in each of the corners he's going in? Cats hate to go where they eat, and if it's becoming a habit that he's going there, that'll help to break it. Also, is there something about the litter box that's bothering him? Is it next to something noisy, or is it hard to get to in any way? Is it next to something smelly? (by smelly, I mean smelly for a cat, like perfume or cleaning products)

If Samson continues to be a bad boy, you are going to have to either keep him locked in the bathroom again until he is retrained or, put a litter box out in the room that he is going in.

Also kittens are babies so if you have one litter box stashed away in some recess of the house thats hard to get to it could be more tempting to pee where he is , You dont expect a 3 year old to hold it while they trek over large distances when you first start potty training right just a thtought

Yesterday I washed the carpet again and put kitty beds on each of his pee corners. So far it has worked, but it's only been a day. Time will tell if it will be effective long term. As for the litter box, no, it is in the downstairs bathroom. The door is always open. We live in a little townhouse, so it definitely isn't hard to find. It isn't next to any cleaners or anything like that either....

Yup, that's exactly what we have been doing. When we are home, he can be out and playing, but when we are gone it's back to the bathroom for him. It makes me really sad for him, being all cooped up in there

I wish he would make the connection between freedom and no accidents.

That does make perfect sense. His litterbox really isn't that far out of the way. I called the vet and she recommended putting a second litterbox on the upstairs, because one of his pee corners is upstairs. I can see how he may not want to go all the way downstairs to pee when the corner is conveniently located right next to him. Like I said before, I already put one of his beds on that spot, but I will also be putting an additional litterbox in the spare room to make it a little more convenient than his corner.

On another note, I finally got a video of him suckling on the blanket

If you listen really carefully you can hear the sucking noises and him purring like a little engine. So freaking cute.

Video Here....

Poor little Samson with his Blankie....

I'd be careful using a kitty bed. My Siamese pooped on one once when she was young and distressed, and I've tried several times over the past few years to reintroduce it. It gets pooped on EVERY TIME though she's an adult and fully capable of using the litter box. Somehow, since it was once a toilet to her, it will always remain so. It lives in my closet. The mini-bowls of food, however, were a deterrent without awful side effects.

You know, if he's cooped up, he'd probably feel better with a feline companion :) I know, I know, Jamison would never allow it. Sigh. You could get a twin and claim that somehow he reproduced himself when you were gone. Or tell him that he's crazy for seeing two cats, and really it's only Samson. "Honey, you need to have your eyes checked....." ;)

Oh geeze. It hadn't occured to me that he might use the bed as a toilet. Yikes. Guess I better get some more food dishes then.

I'm not so sure he would be happy with another kitten. His sister beat the living cr@p out of him when she came to visit. He doesn't really know how to interact with other cats his age. Even if he did, I would only try it on the condition that YOU will take the three of us in when Jamison throws us out on our ears

You don't have to get new dishes, just use paper plates or small dishes that you already have. Doesn't take a whole lot of food or all that long, usually.

FINE. Stick with one cat then :P

I agree on the plates - I used custard dishes because I had a dozen of them. Whatever holds some food in all the spots you don't want him to go.

As I type this my Bali is shedding hair on my keyboard, asking to go out on his leash. I think Samson needs leash trips too. So that you can suffer the same begging.

Just thought I would give a little update

Samson has officially been granted freedom and in the last 4 days he hasn't had a single accident! He seems much happier now. He is also learning to be affectionate. He doesn't *always* bite now when we pet him haha. My favorite time is when I get home from work. He comes running up and gives me kisses and just lets me love on him for a good solid 5 minutes or so

He is, however, tearing up our bed comforter pretty badly. Luckily we were planning on replacing it anyways, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a "big deal" apparently

Other than that he is in great shape. I am taking him to get vaccinated this Saturday, and I received my neuter voucher in the mail, so he will be getting fixed in the next couple of weeks too. After his shots of course.

Yeah, I've replaced a lot of comforters. Now I have a reversible one. I live with the ripped side. Company sees the unripped side. Lol
Biting is not good, but kittens will do that as part of their play. Sharp teeth too, those little ones.
