The color pattern of welsummers

Its a major confusion what EXACTLY of the color of Welsummers. Frustrating, isn't it?

I sure hope the APA standard book will come out soon so I can get the defination of the color of the Welsummer. Too many would say BBR or Partridge when it is a mix of both colors and the breasts should be of mottled black and brown.

Really neat how this will turn out!

I expect the APA standard book will only say the name for that particular colour of welsumer in USA. a lot of confusion arises because the "correct" name for colours varies not only from breed to breed but from country to country.

To me BBR means not a lot. The males of lots of colours could be described as BBR. Afaik partridge might mean e+ (duckwing or partridge sometimes) or it might mean gold pencilled which is usually on eb....confusing to say the least.

BBR & partridge can sometimes mean the same thing....very confusing...

& I think the mottling on the breast could be due to mahogany.

Agreed Henk, the pit fighting cockers named birds from what they could see in a pit. Breast & Back thus BBR and all it's variations. I doubt however that the people who named the hens Partridge ever saw a wild one. The Partridge hens bear no resemblance to either the Grey or Red Legged Partridge.
"Standards are like traffic rules; we never get to write them." Well you could have an imput if you wanted and went to the trouble to make a submission, but I guess it is easier to have a whinge instead.
"Anyway, some of the best birds in show have been bred by people who think Genetics are kinda like fleas but a good spray'll fix 'em."
Yes ignorance is bliss.

Whilst I did made submissions for The Australian Standards, many of the colour standards have a historical basis, which is the point I was trying to make. I don't breed or show birds in the US, so descriptions can differ.

I also have a science degree in the field of animal sciences, so ignorance doesn't come into it. The reference to genetics was an attempt at humour; gene (as in jean) + tics (a tick: parasitic arthropod).

According to the breeders here in the US and Europe, our standards are different than the ones in Europe. It is probably all fad and we all try to go for the standards and cull what it isnt in the standard.

Like the Golden Necked Welsummers, which it is popular in the UK while here in the US it is not recognized yet. So are the Silver and Gold Duckwing patterns.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Golden Necked Welsumers".

Here is one pic of a roo (has that crele looking neck feathers) with a Golden Necked Welsummer. It will be a very light or no penciling in neck at maturity.......That is what one breeder was saying to me when I questioned about the lighter neck feathers than the rest of them. It does pop up now and then.

If you google, it will pop up and soem of the UK Ebay has some. I know of one other breeder that has a trio of those Golden Necked Welsummers here in the US.

I personally do not like them, not too eye pleasing and gave that roo a good home along with a brother of his.

Was there a piccy? It isn't showing on my puter.
I must be doing something wrong because I typed in "Golden Necked Welsummers" into ebay.co.uk but no results matched....but ebay can be difficult at times.I'd already Googled, before I asked & got BYC....

I'd also tried Google images too but no luck.

If they're crele looking I wonder whether someone has been making a new colour? I expect that one culd make a crele Welsumer reasonably quickly without loss of egg colour by using the barring off Cuckoo Marans. I'd love to see a piccy if you have one. I like crele colour.
