The coop is started (Pictures)

I mention to DH I wanted a chicken coop, talk about meeting a brick wall!!! After a bit of wearing down and also mentioning the fact of how long store bought eggs have been around he conceded. All I wanted was a cute little coop, enough for 6 of the chicks I have been raising at a neighbors. You know maybe he just missed me, all the time I have been there!)

I know have an 8x 8 coop!!! It is so far from what I envisioned I have no idea how to do the inside. This is a picture of my son and DH working together.

I helped with the joists and flooring and one of the stud walls. Not bad for a one armed person!! I fracturesd my shoulder 18 months ago and have lost most of the use of my left. I am determined so I just do things a little oddly.

I will keep you all posted and any suggestions are welcomed.

Oh I was just reading your post about the stucco wire, I am looking into it tomorrow. I too will coop the girls up in the evening, but if I happen to get home late I need to make the run secure also.

patman thanks what a cute coop. I like your nest boxes, how often do you need to clean it using DLM?

The key is great ventilation and I have great ventilation, the entire overhangs are open and secure with hardware cloth. Everything is dry and no smell. I clean the poop boards once a week.

Looks like you're off to a super start!! There is soooooo much to consider and everyone's property, weather, wind, etc . . . factors have to be taken into consideration.

I'm in the middle of building mine and I changed a couple of things already despite thinking that I had it all worked out before construction started.

One of the things I'm doing is putting in two pop doors in case I have to separate a bird inside the coop and give it it's own little run. I'm trying to think one step ahead

I am thinking about putting hardware cloth on the top for the summer then close it off in the winter. Two windows will be installed and a sliding door I will have screen for during the day.
