Yikes. Although sometimes storms can be atmospheric if one is in the right mood. We actually get hail here sometimes in the winter. People don't see it coming from Australia.

Symptoms were similar. Headache, fever, sore throat. Doctor shone a light down my throat and went "Gross" and said I had tonsilitis.

How on earth did you manage that in July?

ETA: oh, tonsilitis. Have you had issues with them before?

July is winter in some parts of the world. It was incongruous for the first three years and then I just got used to it.

I haven't had issues with tonsils before. This is the first time I've been this ill before. My father did return from Brisbane with some weird bacterial flu thing two weeks ago, but I think it's unlikely that's related. Anyway, at least I can talk again today so there's progress in the right direction. I spent yesterday communicating through the written word.
