Ec: In a nutshell, it's the idea that women are to be protected by men and that it's a bad idea for a woman to leave her father's house until she's married and can be protected by her husband.

I personally wouldn't, then, want to be a stay at home daughter. For one, I feel my mum protects me more than my dad, and two I don't have much interest in marriage (or much hope of it). I also aspire to go into a predominantly male industry, which I'm slightly embarrassed about.

I don't want to, partly because I don't like living with other people. I'm never happier than when I have the house to myself.​
