I'm taking a giant leap into the world of chickens. I decided on a small flock of Buff Orpingtons and I can not wait. They should be here early May. I've also decided to build my own coop which goes into action in two weeks. I'm sure my better half can't wait either so I stop talking about chickies and adding new ideas for the coop. Lately I've been completely obsessed with this site and I'm hoping that some more experience chicken raisers can give me some advice or even share some of your stories and experiences.

I'm with you. My barred rocks come the beginning of May also.
I have been reading BackYard Chickens for a couple of years.
Now I look in ernest. I ready for the chicks, but, need to build a coop etc. that will look good in my very public space, and be pur-r-r-r-r-fect for my girls.
I have been given some scrap 4'x4' plywood toward my efforts.
I guess I've just decided from tonights reading 4x8 at the base of the coop for 6-8 chicks.
Happy designing and building. I'd appreciate a chick pen-pal to mentor me.
Anyone out there interested?

When you're done building your coop I'd love to see it. I'm getting so excited to build mine I've been collecting things here and there for weeks. The only part I'm hung up on is if I want it to match the house or the barn.

And you're chicks.

I would love to see them when they arrive.

If anyone has something they'd like to share that would be awesome. I can only learn so much from books and magaizines. I know a lot will come with time, but I'd like to hear peoples experiences or even just a funny story or pictures. I'm open to anything.
