so today i went to the pet food store and bought ten little crickies to surprise my baby chicks with. much to my surprise when i released the crickets into their home they were utterly terrified of the crickets. I plan on having some pics up within the next day so that you all can see. It took putting the crickets up on their food for them to start eating them but after that they went crazy

Chicks are this way about anything new in their environment.

But once they discover they are good to eat it'll go back to the usual velociraptor attack.

.....Alan.

My first batch o' chicks were TERRIFIED of yogurt. But I persevered and left some in their "treat dish." Suddenly, on one later check on the chicks, I discovered an empty treat dish.

After that, they stormed the dish for a second helping.

They were only hesitant for about a minute on the mealworms, then it was a mad scramble for those.

Then cooked peas scared them. Just for a while.....

Apparently mine are strange. They eat around the yogurt. What brands do you use?

Continental, unflavored. Just yogurt.

Personally, I don't like it, either, without additives. I put fruit in mine, or sometimes just a dash o' vanilla and some cinnamon. But.... well..... hmmmmm..... as long as I don't add sugar, I suppose I could put some applesauce in theirs, too.

Thats what I'm using...hmm. They just don't like it.
I mixed in some strawberries for them and smooshed it so the flavor spread after they left it alone but they just don't go for it.
They shake their heads after they eat it too, maybe they just don't like stickiness?

Try meal worms, they are not very active and the chicks can "sneak" up on them. My birds love them.

Only one of mine actually eats the mealworms, the rest just like to run around with them *lol* Maybe the eater will teach the others what to do...
