The Devil's hardware

I don't think it would help for ME to pull hard on the fence. I'm sure the raccoons are stronger than I am.

I'm beginning to think I'm in over my head here.

I refuse to nail anything in. Nails, staples, NOTHING. I am a screwing machine (that sounds so wrong, no comments from the peanut gallery!). The last owners of this housed used nails on everything. Having to dismantle all of the nasty ridiculous things they NAILED has been a mess.

I looooove the fender washers and screws! Love love love! You can put them in and take them out and put them back in and then take them back out. And all of the "manpower" is done by the cordless screwdriver. I'm sure it is more expensive, but I also think it is less work and safer in the long run and looks pretty neat too

I buy them at walmart....I think $4 for a pack of 30? And for most fencing use 1 1/4" exterior screws. I think a 1lb box is about $6 at home depot? If you do it right you can even use it to help stretch the wire taut if you screw at an angle pushing the wire tighter to the outside.

I keep stock on hand at all times! I have my little fence kit that is one of those mini plastic organizers....with three sizes of washers and 4 lengths of screws.

I am such a nerd

The last time i used my hammer for anything was when I couldn't find the mallet and had to knock a wall down that was nailed in and i couldn't pull the nails out. Worked like a charm! I boycott hammers and nails.

You can use an air powered roof stapler or crown stapler. The roof staples are about an inch wide and a variety of leg lengths (3/4"-1 1/2"). Roof staples are galvanized so they should hold up outdoors. Not sure if you can buy galvanized crown staples or not. Crown staples are typically used for putting furniture together and subflooring. They are $200 or better for either stapler so it's probably not worth for most people to run out and buy one but, maybe you know someone that does woodworking or roofing that may have one to borrow.

I thought about trying a crown stapler. The local rental place has one that shoots 15 gauge staples from 1" to 2" long. 15 ga. wire is about 1.5 mm in diameter, which is about half the size of the larger fence staples but a lot longer. I guess if you used enough of them that fence won't go anywhere.

we used air compressor and 1 1/2" staples in our gun.. just put alot in lol. you also have to adjust the power of the compressor down some or it goes right through the wires. adjusting the gun was not enough. and definately use the galvanized ones . we got them at lowes

Two things you can do to make it easier to drive these staples in.

1 Take a pliers and squeeze the staple to be more "U" shaped

2 Make a piece of wood about 6" long 3/4 wide and about 3/8"
thick (adjust thickness depending on staple) now put a small slit
in the piece of wood to hold the staple. This will allow
starting the staple and then slip off the block of wood.
