The Devil's hardware

I used 1x2 boards over the ends of the wire fence to hold it in place, I run a screw in about every 18-24"

I fix one end of the fence first then use a come along (sp?) to stretch the fence tight then secure it around the rest of the perimeter. then trim off what ever sticks out.

This way there is no way for an animal to pry up the fence between washers, and I think it looks good.

My two dogs (45 and 55 lbs) have not been able to get past it and now have given up trying.

Goodluck,

David

I forgot to mention the screw/washer combo- yet just last week I built a broody pen using them with expanded steel and wood.

If I'm really in a hurry I spring for the self-tapping screws. Worth the extra money. ZIP! ZIP!

A box of those roof nails are cheap. It's like buying nails with washers but cheaper. I did my run with those and it worked out great. I started with those hard staples and after about 5 minutes of pounding it wouldn't go all the way in.

You can kinda see them in this picture:

IF you are using recycled wood and it's REALLY old, nails and staples will not penetrate the wood.

Of course, maybe that kind of wood is too old, anyway.

I stopped using fence staples after I got new horse fencing, anyway....
