The Discerning Ladies of the Bird and Breakfast [very extremely image heavy]

After a nice grape snack today, the girls commandeered the picnic table. I am told it is now the ‘Chicknic Table’ and no longer approved for human use.

(They are 16 weeks old as of yesterday!)

17 weeks old, and combs are getting redder! (Except for Basil, but we forgive her. She will get there!)

Sage discovered the barn roof today, and was equal parts impressed and horrified by her accomplishment. I don’t think she will attempt it again any time soon.

Those are some really happy and healthy chickens!

I'm impressed by Sage's accomplishment! I thought it was pretty amazing that a couple of mine could make it up to the deck railing, about 7 feet.
The same chair pictured being perched on was up against the barn, so it was not quite as incredible a feat as it first appears…but she and I were both a little shocked that she took the leap anyway!

The farm was brush hogged today, and the girls very much enjoyed scrounging around for anything that was churned up!

Found the girls in one of their favorite spots today…
Peppercorn started squatting yesterday. I anticipate eggs very soon (assuming she hasn’t been playing Easter bunny and hiding them all around the farm…)

The girls were cooped up (hahaha) for just under two days due to a red-tailed hawk scoping out the area. They have informed me that such treatment is very offensive. I will take this into consideration the next time their lives are in potential peril.

Two days in the coop means two days without proper hygiene, but that was corrected over the course of 45 minutes.

Proper bathing is a social activity, and requires at least 3 birds to be adequate.
