Turtles will kill ducklings, they'll come from underneath and bite the feet and drag them under and drown them, or bite the feet off.
Turtles aren;t the sweet lovable creatures you think they are.
They'll also eat alot of fish, especially the fingerlings. Turtles are bad news.

I agree, they are cute to watch on the surface, but watch out underneath. I have seen a large turtle take a goose under. Its not a pretty site.
Careful with shooting them though, the bullet could ricochet.

I understand your reasoning. I never kill for fun and I am tolerant of all animals and predators, until they try and harm my livestock. Id rather not kill anything, but it is my job to look after my animals.

Silencers are legal in Arkasas. Seriously, you might look into it. My silenced Ruger 10/22 sounds like a pellet gun in my back yard. It's great for the critters in my yard. No, I'm not kidding, silencers are legal. Takes some jumping through hoops, but a good .22 silencer will run around $300 plus a tax stamp.
I live in a subdivision of 1 acre lots. Luckily I have no neighbors behind me. The neighbors beside me never even know when I shoot 100 rounds sitting on my patio.
And again, NO, I'm not kidding. I have a friend who runs a silencer website out of AR www.silencerresearch.com and he is also a dealer for them. He could hook you up.
I have a question. What is the floating base made from? We have a pond and have Mallards on/in it. We fed them last year and they are back this year. Unfortunately, we cleaned up the back of the pond and they don't have all of the cover they had last year. I saw this and thought, Wa La, there is our answer. Let me know what you used so I can build one for the Mallards. Thanks, Chris

I believe catfish is referring to snapping turtles and alligator turtles...they are not box turtles, The eat baby ducks! They will kill every baby floating on the surface.
I have shot many of them for killing our ducks and geese. Sorry to say I lost no sleep over it and they taste good in a soup!
Unfortunately the snapping turtles don't stop with babies; they'll munch on anything they can get their jaws around (LITERALLY). My neighbor lost one beautiful full-grown duck to a turtle attack, and another duck lost its foot. She survived, but she hobbles and limps now on her stub and part of a remaining toe. I believe in live and let live, and would love to have ducks, but since there's no way to keep snakes & turtles out of a pond, I'll either not have them or if I ever do get any, I'll keep them in a run with a kiddie pool for a "water park".
