The dog owner called me... WWYD?

I think the point the original poster is trying to convey is that it is HER attachment for her chickens, not her CHICKENS attachment to her. So the whole personality thing is NOT the point. The "point" is she was attached to her chickens and is suffering a loss due to a predator attack.

I hate it when someone asks a honest question and folks go off on opinionated tangents that have nothing to do with the question.........

Question:

She wasn't aware that they also killed my other neighbor's. She said that when I was ready to replace them she would cover the cost.

Our coop will have to be repaired, our dog pen is useless at this point (not that we use it, but still)... Some people feel I should still report them to animal control. Just covering replacements doesn't seem like enough??

What would you do?

In my opinion, since this has happened, the dog getting loose, time and time again and she had no idea what her dog was doing that she seems to be irresponsible. And the fact that she has proven irresponsible means it will most likely happen again. For these reasons I would report her to authorities telling them that you don't want to press charges, since she is taking responsibility and paying damages, but that you do want what happened on record. By not pressing charges, you are giving her the chance to secure her dog, but, by reporting her dog as causing damage, you are setting the stage to be better able to have authorities confiscate the dog should it get loose and threaten your property in the future. And she should pay for more than just the birds, she should pay all the costs involved in putting your physical property back to the condition it was in before her dog got loose. imho.

Thank you! That's what I was trying to say earlier (and couldn't quite get the right point across).

I agree-it NEEDS to be on record because nobody knows what will happen with the neighbor in future events. This may only be the tip of the iceburg. AND there could be several more neighbors with losses as well, and reporting it could actually have an effect on getting the matter taken care of in the right and lawful manner.

Since this thread had degenerated into a way off topic squabble, we are done here. These dog posts always seem to go south and it has gotten REALLY old.

There is a lot of advice to think on. I hope you are able to resolve your differences with your neighbor, Silkhope.
