The Dragon Bird { Green Peafowls

Quote:
Well I don't think so... The fact that Java and Malaysia are far away from each other suggests otherwise. Javanensis is a green-backed, green-headed bird while muticus muticus is a blue-headed bird more related to annamensis. Javanensis tends to have more bolder facial skin than muticus which has a lemon-yellow facial skin. The crests are not the same either; Javanensis has a straight crest while muticus has a crest similar to nominate imperator, but it can be so tall it falls forward.

Pavo javanensis Let's focus for a moment on the female of the species.

These are captive females right? I kinda think that because the tip of the crest is so spread apart. There's a lot of captive birds that look rather chubby as well...

In wild javanensis the crest is kinda like that but more bound together:

wow that's horrible... especially since the bird is being pet by people and its leg tied to something.

That's dangerous, there's a video on YouTube of a child being attacked by an Indian Peacock at a zoo. Considering Green Peafowl tend to be more aggressive. (funny though, I've never seen any photographs of fighting Green Peacocks, vs. I've seen many pictures of Indian Peafowl fighting).

I think that's javanensis but the lighting and colours are strange. The black borders along the scales of the backplate are very prominent in Javanensis and given that it's in Indonesia it's almost certainly Javanensis. (though some captive birds may be composites)

How's the sketches coming Clinton? Are you gonna do Peahen sketches too?

Frank,
I were busy gardening & working for amost a week, until last night when I working on illustrations, and I had added Buford Bronze peacock just below Black-shouldered peacock in illustations of adult male peafowls. I'm still working on Javanenese peacock, and 11 more races of adult male dragonbirds.
I were disgusted to see a beautiful dragonbird being tied by a leg, & wallowing in its wet droppings. Dragonbirds are supposed to be kept in bigger spacius avaries. How do keeper likes get dirtied in dragonbird poops on their clothes ?

Clinton.

unfortunately a lot of places keep Greens in such conditions.

This is even worse:

The bird is kept in a 3 meter cage! A large male could barely fit in that.

These birds are very well camoflauged. It is clear that the iridescence is used to confuse predators. In the field, Green Peafowl are hard to see due to their camouflage. As some Japanese scientists had found out, the display of peacocks is not as important to peahens as their calls and other matters. The striped face in Green peafowl might be a way to mimic pit vipers or something, combined with the hissing sounds created by shaking their quills. Therefore it is more of a "threat display" than a "courtship display"
